“A Real Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2008

The property was charming, clean and tastefully furnished. The comfortable bed gave us a good night's sleep. Breakfast was to die for. Located in the downtown, two blocks off of the busy main drag in a quiet neighborhood. The Roseberry House was an experience, not just another night on the road.

We were on a roadtrip and had no reservations Memorial Weekend. Susanville happened to be the town where we got tired. After driving by a few of the "standard" (read dumpy) motels we checked our crackberry and found a bed and breakfast. It took no time before we decided this was the place to stay.

There were four of us so we rented two lovely rooms. They were decorated beautifully in antiques, the hosts were wonderful. We had fresh cookies waiting for us when we got back from dinner, which was so nice being that our dessert at the restaurant was so bad we sent it back. They have a Senso coffee maker so I was able to go down and get coffee throughout the evening without bothering anyone.

The beds were very comfortable, the house is off the main street so it was really quiet, and the bath even had bath salts!

The breakfast was to die for. Everything was so fresh and tasty, worth the stay alone! I only wish I had set breakfast for a later time, as it was the one day of the trip I could have slept in (once again, thanks to the wonderful bed).

I was shocked at how reasonably priced this b&b was. I just can't say enough good about this place and the hosts. We will definitely be looking for a reason to go back!

  • Liked — The comfortable beds and the food
  • Disliked — Not enough time here, stay more than one night!

When planning our trip to Lassen Volcanic Park, we had some difficulty finding accommodations for Friday and Saturday night. After reading the great reviews of the Roseberry House, we decided spend the first part of our week a bit closer to the park, and then come to Susanville for the weekend. While we had a nice stay closer to the park, our time at the Roseberry House was truly wonderful, and we sort of wish we'd booked our whole trip there. (Admittedly, it would have meant a bit more driving.) The antique-filled rooms are gorgeous, and the fantastic breakfast includes fresh produce and preserves from the innkeepers' garden. Most importantly, the innkeepers are lovely people who offer a warm home and answers for all your local travel questions. We were particularly grateful for their suggestion that we go horseback riding while in Susanville; this ended up being one of the highlights of our trip.

  • Liked — The innkeepers, the antiques (and the stories behind them), the super comfy bed, and the fantastic breakfast!
  • Disliked — There's not a ton to do in/around Susanville, so a fair bit of driving becomes necessary.

What a beautiful inn! Though somewhat off the beaten path (not that far off) it is worth a detour not only to see this labor of love, but to share some time with the innkeepers. Two couples, who have known one another for years, decided to get out of the rat race of the big city and move to this beautiful location in the Sierras near Lassen Park. I envy them. The two Richards and their wives, Charmy and Judy, are the most gracious hosts imaginable. The rooms are large and the beds comfortable. The breakfast superb. We stayed in the "French Suite". Highly recommend it. Spacious, light and welcoming. As we were leaving, I became grumpy. I was on my way back to the rat race in the big city.

It was snowing, near zero degrees and we opened the door to step back into Victorian splendor and warmth! Richard and Judith are friendly and wonderful hosts and they offer comfortable rooms (each one a bit different)with great ambiance and personality. The "included" full breakfast was superb and no surpise as Richard, retired from another profession, graduated from culinary school and it shows! You will not leave hungry. This won't be our last time at the Roseberry House.

After camping in the beautiful Lassen Volcanic National Park area for 6 days ( late Sept ) we decided to go a little further east and check out "Susanville" The Roseberry House B & B was a WONDERFUL, comfortable place we choose instead of one of those motels and boy were we glad! Really couldn't say anything bad about these friendly folks and their swell place. Highly recomend it to all traveling this beautiful, remote area of north eastern California.
