“Very nice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

This was my first stay @ The Maple Tree. I was there only 2 nights, but the accommodations were pleasant, the complimentary breakfast & evening happy hour food is a step above other hotels in the area. I'm going again soon so we'll see if they are consistent. I expect so.

We greatly appreciate your review. We are just starting to improve, so we imagine your next visit will show even greater service, options, and amenities. We're proud of what we're doing at the hotel, and with reviews like yours, we are able to hear, loud and clear, that we're doing a good job. But we won't rest on our laurels, and there is still much to do. We hope to be the top hotel in Silicon Valley, and the South Bay - not just Sunnyvale. We are working our way there, but plan to listen and learn from all our guests, which will help greatly. Thank you for taking the time to share your review - we look forward to hearing about your future experiences. Be well!

Ok, I have to admit upfront I really wanted to hate this place before I even arrived. Corporate travel chose the hotel for us. The hotel is in the middle of upgrading. The new rooms are quite nice. Walk in showers. LCD TV's. The staff is pleasant and were really helpful. The breakfast is included. Not a huge variety but enough to get you started. Overall nice experience and the price cannot be beat. Get a refurbished room.

We really enjoyed your review! We love altering expectations - and we completely understand that feeling of having to trust someone else doing the booking for you. We see it time and time again - people walking in with the typical skeptical look, which is quickly changed by our friendly, efficient staff, or the general aesthetic of the pool area, and happy hour. There are many unexpected values and benefits of staying with us (we think). =)

It's great that we can turn around expectations, and hope to begin a tradition of delighting and surprising people for years to come, here in Silicon Valley. We are a new management group at the hotel, and we apologize for all that activity going on with our new room renovation. If you choose to visit us again, it will be done by mid February. But the resulting rooms are fantastic, and you described them really well. The extra few dollars for the refurbished rooms are well worth it, and likely the best value in all of Silicon Valley. With reviews like yours, people will find out fairly quickly. We really appreciate it, and thank you much!

We hope to have you return, and until then, be well!

Sincerely,
Michael at the Maple Tree Inn

My husband and I make several trip to Sunnyvale each year to visit our daughter and her family, and are so glad we came across this little gem that takes good care of us during our extended stays there. Although most of the guests seem to be in town on business, the hotel still fills our needs as a family when we have our 4 year old grandson stay with us. The heated pool and patio area for him to play in is a real attraction, there is a coin laundry, and they also include breakfast and afternoon appetizer/beverage offerings Monday thru Thursday which are a real savings when you don't want to venture out to eat. They are also currently updating the rooms and we stayed in one of the newly-decorated ones on the 3rd floor last week. It was very contemporary and functional with free wifi, a microwave/fridge, and a great bathroom. We met and enjoyed a visit with the new sales manager who, together with his wife (and general manager), are making some great improvements in this property. We'd highly recommend this hotel if you want a homey atmosphere for an extended stay.

Thank you so much for your review! The Maple Tree Inn is really lucky to have Barbara (our GM) and Bruce (the director of sales) at the property. They are an incredible team, and it's always nice to know you have a family running a hotel, committed to it in a way that is pretty rare, nowadays. In fact, the hotel's management group is a small, local hotel company that is family owned. With the families invested in the hotel, it's more than a business, but a community. This community includes our guests, but our employees, and the city we are rooted in. It's important for us to have a clean, up to date, and inviting hotel, and part of that is having a healthy community, and making sure everyone is taken care of. In that, employees feel empowered, and guests feel taken care of.

We're not just updating the rooms to make them more comfortable and modern, we turning around the culture and operations of the entire hotel. This is just the beginning, and we're excited to say it will only get better from here. We really appreciate your review, and can't wait to have you return. Thank you again!

Sincerely,
Michael at the Maple Tree Inn

Stayed here recently for 19 nights and really enjoyed my stay. The rooms are large and well equipped. They may think about investing in flat screen tvs in the future, though. There is everything you would need for a extended stay, fridge, microwave etc etc. It is really quite and I was over there on Thanksgiving and their was a large influx of people not so you would notice so. There was a heated swimming pool, too cold to swim though, a rather nice gym, did not use and a guest laundry, used three times. They have a hospitality hour at the end of every day, so there is always tasty treats and beer to drink of an evening. The breakfast has a wide variaty to chose from, and while it may not be 5 star, but it is cooked well and very tasty.

The best bit about this hotel is without doubt the staff, they are very good at what they do and they show an interest in you as well, they were outstanding. Thanks

The only real negatve point, it has no bar, being from the UK, we always have bars in hotels, and if after working all day sometimes its nice to get to the hotel, have a couple of drinks in the bar, and get something to eat.

Otherwise very good place to stay.

Room Tip: E EL Camino is very busy, if you are a light sleeper get a room at the sides or back, not front

Thank you for your review, and great advice on the room location. It typically isn't an issue, but for travelers that are lighter sleepers, asking for something to the rear or inside courtyard might provide better sleeping alternatives, for sure. As for the bar issue - you are right, and we are working on it. We're a new management company working on the liquor license, and after we get that sorted out, we will be able to provide drinks for your room, and small sales. Until then, we do like that you took advantage of our happy hour - it's a popular amenity for our weekday guests. We are also happy to guide you to lively, happening bars, but do understand the convenience of having a pub in house. We appreciate the comments, and hope that we have the liquor license situation sorted out prior to your return. Thank you for the kind words and helpful hints. Cheers, and we hope this finds you well!

Sincerely,
Michael with the Maple Tree Inn

Maple Tree inn is a superb hotel. We stayed there for a couple of weeks and enjoyed our stay very much. The atmosphere is very friendly and personal. There is a rich breakfast, and there is a good heated outdoor pool.
Monday to Thursday afternoon there is an ” entertainment hour” (5 -6.30 p.m.) in which guests are invited to a light dinner (including free wine and beers).
The manager and the whole stuff are friendly. We felt very comfortable and recommend highly this hotel if you are visiting Sunnyvale and the area.

We love your review! Thank you so much for sharing your experience and advice. When we originally read this, it was very validating of the changes happening at the hotel, and on property. There is a new management group, and new management at the property - Your review was so kind, and very invigorating. We have many improvements and changes to make, so it's good to see we are already making people happy with our stellar staff! Hopefully the next time you return, you will see the other upgrades we have made. We appreciate that you took the time to write a review - it reaches so many potential guests! It helps us very much, and we cannot thank you enough. Be well!

Stayed here for 7 nights on business trip.

From SFO airport, you can get to hotel by shared cab which would cost you 35$.

Hotel is located on El Camino real and its an excellent location. Staff is courteous.

Rooms are quite okay. Beds could have been better.

Breakfast at the hotel is not so great but it is ok. Lots of restaurants around of all types of cuisines so food is not a problem at all

If you want to buy something from Bestbuy it is just 10 min walk from the hotel.

I would definitely stay here if I am back in Sunnyvale.

Just one drawback, their Wi-Fi service is really poor - very difficult to stay connected. No LAN connection. For Business travelers it can be really annoying. They mentioned that they are improving the coverage and connectivity across the hotel.

Thank you for your review! We love these review sites, because it gives us the opportunity to listen and learn. Many of your suggestions were well taken, and we're constantly making improvements to the hotel.

We have just updated many of our rooms, and the beds are brand new. For anyone potentially booking, make sure to ask about our recently renovated rooms. The difference in price is nothing compared to the value they present over our standard rooms. We promise you will be very happy! What's more, we're still updating the breakfast - making the quality and options better. As of now, we have one of the best free breakfasts in Silicon Valley. For many of our clientele, the Japanese Ramen options are greatly appreciated as well. But we were aware that it wasn't up to par when we arrived at the hotel in September, and we are working to improve options.

As you noted, the wifi and internet connections have all been improved - infrastructurally, as well as bandwidth. We now have Comcast providing much faster speeds for us. You will notice all this on your return visit, and we cannot wait to have you back. Thank you for taking the time to share the review, and we hope this finds you well.

Sincerely,
Michael at the Maple Tree Inn

I motel hopped from Oct. 29th to Nov. 8th while my husband was a surgical and then rehab patient in the Palo Alto/Sunnyvale area. Not knowing how long he would be hospitalized I was booking only 1-2 days in advance because of cancellation policies. Not being from the area I wasn't prepared for the "we're all booked up" statement from motels in Silicon Valley. Reservations clerk, Carla, at Maple Tree went above and beyond other motels. She took my name and number and actually called me when a cancellation came up. It wasn't until the morning of Nov. 7th that I knew I had a place to sleep that night. What a weight that took off the stress I was already under. When I arrived at the motel the check in was quick and efficient. The lobby was clean and modern. My room had every possible amenity ~ but sadly I didn't have the time or opportunity to use them. My room overlooked the courtyard and pool. The a/c worked and was quiet. The bed was clean and comfortable the room. The breakfast was expanded and included a few Asian choices which I thought was so appropriate for the area. This motel was a mere .9 miles from the rehab my husband was at. There are restaurants conveniently located to the motel as well as shopping malls.

While I don't anticipate returning to Sunnyvale I would most definitely stay here again if I did. Thank you, Carla, and the very kind staff at Maple Tree.

You are so kind, and we are so happy to be there for you during your unpredictable and stressful times. Thank you for highlighting our rooms, amenities, and hotel - but we TRULY appreciate highlighting what puts us head and shoulders above other hotels in Silicon Valley, the South Bay, or Sunnyvale area - our service.

For many employees of local hotels, it's just a job. At our hotel, we are proud to say that our employees value their ability to make a difference, change a day, or help a person in need. It's an exciting part of how hospitality can be transformative, and impacting on people's lives. It's a lesson we try and teach our employees, as well as our guests. We want the Maple Tree Inn to be so much more than just a hotel to stay at, or a place to lay your head. We want to go out of our way to make your travels simpler, and your day more comfortable.

You did a great service for us, pointing that out, and we are in debt to you. If you should ever return to the area, don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to help anyone in any way that we can! Cheers, thank you again, and be well!

Sincerely,
Michael at the Maple Tree Inn
