I travel a lot for business and I stay hotels between 90 to 120 days per year, for the last 25 years. So, I have been in hell holes and five-stars all over the U.S and other countries. A few problems are no big deal. But when the issues begin to pile up, there is a breaking point.
Quality Inns are usually very good but certainly not this one. For Silicon Valley, this was the second worst hotel I have ever stayed at---a torturous two nights. (The first one is another review) So, I'll just do a list: 1.The chain latch was put on backwards. That meant the open side was nearest the jam. No safety there. No intelligence either. 2. The wireless was at 20% strength--did not work at all. 2a. Oh, there was an Ethernet cable as well. Didn’t work either. 3. The clock was unplugged. I had to move the bed to plug it in. Always a treat for a bad back. Once plugged in, it still didn't work. 4. The desk light and desk outlet (single) did not work. I discovered it was wired to a switch ‘behind' the TV armoire. Brilliant! 5. The air conditioner worked---only occasionally. 6. One bar of soap. So I had to move it from sink for a shower, then back again. No new bar the second day. 6. The pillows were the size of a 15 inch square throw pillow, only thicker and harder. Awful for comfort. 7. Only one bath towel but two hand towels. 8. The iron’s wall holder was hanging on by a thread. It finally hit the floor during the night. 9. The push button for the iron’s sprayer was missing. 10. The hair dryer was broken. 11. The breakfast buffet room was about the size of the bathroom in the room. Five tiny tables, burnt, horribly smelling bacon with hard boiled, not scrambled, eggs. Denny’s was about a mile away, thank goodness. 12. The computer in the lobby could not connect to the internet. But, I was able to go behind the desk and use their computer to print my boarding pass. Ridiculous. 13. Lastly, there is a book-sharing shelf in the lobby. Above it there a notable very emphatic sign about No Religious Books Allowed. I thought that was a bit threatening and odd the way it was worded, and not that I am religious person.
My associate had similar issues with his room. And the topper for him was no TV remote and there was not a spare one to be had in the hotel.
So, why the one star? I was clean and I can’t do zero stars.
