“Amazing meat, regular atmosphere, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013 via mobile

I come here whenever i can, the meat is amazing and the experience of cooking it yourself on a hot stone is worth the visit. Super friendly staff, always kind and helpful. A little bit expensive for the amount of food but it's high quality meat.

“Average Food. Average Service. Poor Business. High Prices.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

I was very excited to try this new restaurant and I was expecting it to be something special. My husband and I went to celebrate a special occasion and we planned to use a Groupon that we had that had expired. We were VERY disappointed by everything the Rok Bistro had to offer.

Problem #1: We arrived at 6:30pm and the restaurant was about half full. We were told that we would have to sit on the patio because we did not have a reservation. I tried to get a seat inside, but the hostess simply said that it was all reserved. We ended up on the patio (on a cold, rainy evening in June) and the entire time we were outside, there were open tables inside.

Problem #2: The food was overpriced for what it was. The vegetables had an odd/bad flavor to them. The seafood ended up being way overcooked by the hot rock. Everything stuck to the hot rock. I would never again pay $26 for 3 overcooked prawns and 4 tasteless scallops.

Problem #3: The services was poor to average. Having been a server myself, I understand the trade and how to treat customers well. The server did not take our drink orders and she did not offer us anything in the way of add-ons, salads, etc. Poor move, because they probably could have gotten a lot more money out of us by offering us wine, salad, dessert, etc. When we were done eating, the dirty dishes remained on the table for a while. The waitress came and went and never cleared our 100% empty plates. In addition, I was underwhelmed by the waitresses interest, enthusiasm, and service.

Problem #4: The manager refused to let us use the expired Groupon for the price we paid for it. The Gropuon says "$80 Groupon toward dinner for four or more." Below that it says "The amount paid for this voucher ($40.00) with Rok Steakhouse NEVER EXPIRES. The promotional value expires April 27, 2013." The manager refused to allow us to use the Groupon for the $40 we paid for it because there were only two of us. In my understanding, the "four or more" only applies to the promotional $80 price. That makes sense: You get something for half price, so you have to follow the rules. However, it seems crazy to me for a business to refuse to give you what you have already paid for. By allowing us to use the voucher of $40, the restaurant looses nothing and possibly even gains a customer. By not allowing us to use the vouches of $40, the restaurant is now going to loose that $40, they have lost my business, and they now have a poor review on this website.

“Nothing special”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

I wanted to like this restaurant because of the concept but my Prawns and Scallops entree was tasteless. The sauces didn't help very much. Overpriced for the quality of food.

“Fondues and meat with friends”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

Friends used Groupon for a couples night out with dinner and drinks. Our first time here and it was very nice. Our server was so friendly and very, very helpful with her suggestions. We were able to order what we all wanted and the server gave us helpful recommendations. The cocktails were a little small and pricey but were tasty. We had the ceasar salads followed by the gruyere cheese fondue. The fondue was made with beef broth, white wine, seasonings and grated gryere cheese and served with crusty bread and a variety of vegtables. What impressed me is that the vegtables were accompanied by baby pickles that tasted great with the cheese fondue. Later we had a variety of meats that included filet mignon, buffalo steak, boneless chicken, portabella mushroom with cheese. We substituted the mushroom in place of the ahi tuna. The other meat our group ordered was the sirloin steak and chicken dinners. The meats came with a variety of dipping oils/sauces which were very yummy. The meat does not come seasoned and is flash seared. The reason it is not fully cooked is that the hot volcanic rock slab it comes served on cooks the meat for you if you slice it up. The rock is about 700 degrees we were told, hard to believe but it sure cooked the meats fast! after our entree we had a choice of desert fondue. We chose the chocolate smore fondue that was made with half & half, milk chocolate chips, marshmellow creme then flambeed with 151 rum and topped with graham cracker crumbs! It was fabulous with the variety of morsels we dipped inside! our dinner was just perfect for the amount of food as we were not over stuffed yet were full. The cost is a little pricey but it is to be expected and was worth every dollar. We will definately come here again but have to save up enough money first! Seriously it is worth a try for yourself and your family or friends.

“Classic fondue needs better bread”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

New and unique dining experience. Groupon coupon helped keep down the cost.

Service was very good for us newbies cooking on rocks. Our only complaint was that the quality of the bread served with the classic swiss fondue had a texture more similar to wonder bread than the crusty cubes a good fondue deserves. I continue to search for a really excellent fondue.
