“Finding this B&B Is Like Finding Gold!”

Inn On Summerhill

I stayed at this hotel for my birthday. I really wanted to relax and be pampered this year so I was looking for something different from the average hotel experience. When I initially found this B&B online I was nearly blown away by the unique appearance of the rooms and the amount of amenities offered, so I quickly proceeded to cancel a prior reservation I had made with another hotel and called to make a reservation with this Inn!

When I arrived I automatically noticed their superior customer service and a sense that they truly wanted to please their guest. The man at the front desk who checked me in gave me a tour of the hotel grounds and of my room. Now maybe I am just an inexperienced traveler or “not in the know” but just that little detail made me feel very welcomed instead of like a bother as is often the case with most places where the front desk personnel merely types in some stuff on the computer, ask you how many keys you would like then gives you brief directions on how to get to your room (maybe).

When I finally saw the room in person, it was even more captivating than I had expected. The whole set up was so inviting and warm and everything was immaculately clean. Some of my favorite perks were the speakers installed on the wall that enabled you to hear the stereo evenly throughout the entire room, the super cozy beds, the beautifully decorated bathroom with jetted tub! and of course, the ocean view balcony. Also, there is ample (free) parking. One lot gives easy access for guest with rooms located down stairs and the other for guest with rooms located up stairs. However, guest can park anywhere they like regardless of where their room is. They have a decent movie selection as well, with movies available at no charge upon request and there is low traffic on the Inn ground which makes it that much quieter.

The food served and its presentation was no disappointment either. It was all very delicious and amounts were ample. I could go on and on about this place. They are so accommodating. I literally have zero complaints. And coming from me (an extremely detailed and picky person) that is saying a lot! Their goal seems to be to eliminate as much stress as possible for their guests. And in my case, mission accomplished! I felt like a princess my entire stay here.

The only thing I would warn against (as every other reviewer has mentioned as well) would be the 101 highway noise. If you are seeking total peace and serenity, this is probably not the place for you as you can hear the highway traffic with the balcony doors open. But even then the noise isn't "that" bad. This is Summerland, not L.A. people. But for those of you who do want absolute peace and quiet, if you close the balcony doors completely, you won’t hear the highway noise at all but you may occasionally hear the train whistle even with the balcony doors closed. The train didn’t bother me at all though, in my opinion it added a calming effect. Another thing I might add is there is no internet access unless you bring a laptop but even without that the front desk people were nice enough to do a search for me and help me find what I was looking for.

Overall I had a wonderful stay here and would recommend this B&B to anyone, including singles both young and old. I came alone and have no regrets. I will definitely be back and may even make it a tradition. Just a note to people with young kids… it’s probably best to leave them with a sitter during your visit here :-).

I did want to share pics of my room and some of the food served and such but I can't load them on my comp. at the moment. Oh well, hope I gave you enough of a vivid description above.

Enjoy your stay!

“Charming, nice view, gourmet breakfast/snacks”

We stayed here for the UCSB graduation and enjoyed this location.

It's very 101 centric so whichever direction you need to go, you have good access. The town of Summerland has several good local restaurants.

The rooms are very nice, with a unique flavor. The breakfast and snacks were extremely well prepared.

The only thing we didn't particularly enjoy was the 101/railroad noise. Honestly, we didn't think it was a big deal. Being from Southern California, trains run North and South near the beach pretty much all the way down the shoreline, so hearing the train, for me reminded me i was by the beach. but, if these types of things tend to bother you, you should probably look into staying at another place.

Staff was friendly.

We were very pleased with everything about this experience. We had 8 rooms with guests for a wedding. The B&B allowed us to cater a party the night before for the people in the wedding. Their breakfasts were great and so were the appetizers. The rooms were very clean and charming. We thought the value was much better than what was offered in Santa Barbara. We have stayed in the Fess Parker for twice the money and would stay here before there any day. I loved seeing the ocean from the room and balcony. I was actually charmed by the train. If you want dead quiet don't stay in any beach town in the world. Access to Santa Barbara and Montecito was very fast and easy.

My husband and I fell in love with the Inn On Summerhill. It is warm and inviting and it's obvious that the owner lavishes it with love and money. The decor is exquisite. The beds are the most comfortable we have ever slept on. The staff is wonderful. The chef creates delicious afternoon treats, tempting evening cookies and sumptuous breakfasts. We are so glad that we ignored the reviews that focused on the highway noise. Yes, the highway is nearby. However, it really never became an issue for us and I'm so sensitive to noises that I sleep with earplugs! The Inn is so delightful and well maintained that if it were not for the proximity to the highway, the rooms would probably go for over $500 per night. It's that nice.

“Noisy 101 and Trains”

Inn On Summerhill

Jun 24, 2008

The noise from 101 destroys the charm that the room might have
had. We stayed in an upper level room with balcony but there's no point in sitting outside when all you see and hear are cars and
trucks on the 101 and the regular train service.

I selected the Inn based on the ocean view pictures and was dissapointed that there's no way you can enjoy it. If I had read all the reviews, I wouldn't have made this mistake.

If you don't mind road noise and are looking for a really nice room and bed and breakfast experience then this can work for you. The staff does an excellent job. The provided breakfast was good.
