My husband and I have stayed at Summerhill on several occasions and have always enjoyed it. We decided to stay for Thanksgiving and saw a rate on the hotel's website of $179 for a king balcony room. We phoned the Inn in April 2007 to make the reservation but the hotel clerk showed a rate of $269. When I informed him about the Inn's website amount he said he would make the reservation but had to check with Camila the manager about the rate. After a lot of phone calls back and forth, she finally agreed the the internet rate. Then, in October 2007, my husband received a phone call from Camila stating that the king balcony was not available and we would be given a different room instead. We felt this was obviously about the money since the room was available in April. When my husband confronted Camila about this she stated that her hotel staff does not always know if rooms are available (although she herself had given the O.K. for the room in April). Unfortunately, we will never stay here again due to obvious dishonesty.

We made the reservations months before and were very excited to stay at a "bed & breakfast" for the first time. We stayed in one of their ocean front view rooms but when we got to the room we were disappointed. All you can hear was the freeway and hearing the train made us jump, it came in so loud. The bed looked nice from view but laying down on it was a different story. It was very uncomfortable and lumpy. Their pillows were all big and stiff. The actual breakfast arrived very late. We had to call the front desk twice to get our coffee which they said would be at our door at 8:30. it didnt get there until 9:00. When the breakfast finally got there, the eggs were overcooked. Needless to say, we weren't all that impressed with the food. All of this was just fine compared to what happened next. Later that afternoon of our two night stay, I got a call from the front desk when we were about 10 miles from the hotel out shopping. this was the Manager of the place saying that it was past the time of check out and we hadn't checked out yet. I informed her that our reservation was for 2 nights and I even had in my hand the confirmation that they mailed me. The Manager informed me that what I signed when I checked in was for one night only and our room had since been reserved by someone else. she said that if we didnt come back to the room and remove our belonging that they would pack our stuff up and leave it in the lobby. She said that I need to read what I am signing before doing so. So basically, my wife and I were left without a room to stay in the next night on our weding anniversary and this place wasnt going to do anything to reimburse us. All she offered me was a free night in the future (as if we would EVER stay at this place again!). When I asked her how this mistake could have happened, she said that we must have called and changed our reservation at some point (which of course we never did) and would not accept any responsibility for the screwup.

Our second floor king rm was nice but we felt that it could've been cleaned a little better. The toilet smelled really bad when we initially walked in. Andre at the fr desk made sure that housekeeping took care of the situation while we were out that evening. Chef Rodney's creations were delicious always. The negatives for us were the tiny bathrm, noise fr 101, & noise fr all the freight trains. Positves were our check-in w/Andre, meals fr Chef Rodney, view fr our balcony, two parking lots, location to Montecito/SB, & visual appearance of the Inn (especially enjoyed the beautiful plantings/flowers). Probably would not go back b/c of the noise.

Inn on Summer Hill Bed and Breakfast came up when I entered
Summerland Lodging. After putting in my dates, and the rate showed up, I booked a room. My print out showed I was dealing with Roadsideamerica.com We were pleasantly surpriced about the accomodations, the pleasant staff, the breakfasts specially cooked by the friendly Chef. The Wine plus the home made hors'doeuvres in the afternoon, and then the home cooked very special desserts from 8:30 to 10 PM. It does not get any better. Met some really nice friendlky guests. I higly recommend this place as a couple of days
"get away " for adults. I had read comments about the noise from the 101, and train, but this did not bother us, we closed the patio doors at night.We certainly will stay there again God willing.
