My wife and I have been to several Black Bear Diners throughout California and have always enjoyed great food and service that is above the standard of most diner, however the Suisun California location leaves much to be desired.
Now I am not one to rip on a restaurant unless I have been there twice. Everyone has a bad day and deserves a second chance.
Thye first time we went to this location it took us about 10 minutes to be recognize by our waitress and asked if we would like to start with coffee. Once the coffee was served it took another ten minutes before our waitress came back to take our order. The food took awhile to arrive and then we didn't see our waitress again until she brought our check. Like I said, maybe just a bad day. No problem.
Last Sunday, January 27, we decided to give Black Bear another try.\\
Walking in we were recognised by the hostess, asked if we preferred a booth or table. She went to make sure the table had been wiped down, came back and seated up promptly. A good start.
When we had been seated, there was a waiter standing and talking to a patron at the table next to us. For the next 10 to 15 minutes we were "entertained" by this waiter as he told his "friend" about what was wrong with the Suisun location and how much better the Napa store was. Then he switched topics and started to tell his friend all about how the new taxes were eating up his take home pay. Then we got to listen to him talk about how terrible the commute was between Suiun and Napa.
Mind you, this was all taking place while we had not even been asked if we would like coffee or juice to start. No one even pretended there were two paying customer sitting waiting to be helped. At the very least the "waiter" (good word for him because we were still waiting) could have said "let me find your waiter for you". But nope it was Economics Day at the Black Bear.
We decided we had had enough and got up to leave, As we walked out we saw there were A LOT of people waiting to be sat at tables.
My wife walked out but I thought I would talk to a manager just to let him know what was going on. I waited for the hostess to get done with her current customer, getting them sat then asked to see a manager.
The "waiter" (Mr. Economics) walked up and the hostess asked him to help me as she was trying to seat another table. He asked how he could help me. I requested a manager. Was told he would have to be retrieved from the back. Havuing worked the food service industry I can tell you, hanging out in your office during the morning rush is just not cricket.
When the manager showed up I informed him of what had happened. I have to admit he did try to get us to come back in but at that point what was the use.
There are plenty of places in Suisun for breakfast. Do yourself a favor and pass this place by. Bab's on the waterfront has a much better breakfast and the wait staff is by far more professional.
DCan't understand it. Black Bear is usually really good.
