I live in Stockton, but check into the Courtyard about every other month, just to escape the family. Hotel has EXCELLENT service. It is located in the upscale Brookside neighborhood, in the residential area, so off the 'mainstream' downtown. However, only a 4 minute drive Applebys, marie callenders, Black Angus, El Torritos, Outback, Fast Foods. Starbucks up the street 1/2 mile. They have a wonderful breadfast buffet. VERY SAFE!!!!! They have the new full service Sheraton in downtown, however, I would never go downtown after dark, no matter how nice the sheraton is. Marriott is the BEST SAFEST place to stay.

“great stay”

Courtyard by Marriott Stockton

Dec 31, 2007

Stayed herre with the wife and kids at Christmas as I am from Stockton originally but my parents have down-sized and don't have room for four more people. This is always my second choice to the Residence Inn (which is adjacent). This hotel is clean, comfortable, the staff is courteous and the breakfast buffet is good. Being from Stockton, I can tell you that the town can be a dangerous place, and car thetfs/break-ins are quite common. But we have never had any problem whatsoever in about 10 stays in this area of town over the years. It is in the well-heeled suburb of Brookside just west of the 5 freeway and away from any riff-raff you might encounter elsewhere. I notice a lot of people ragging on Stockton in their reviews but it is a growing town and socio-economically it is starting to improve (better restaurants, lower crime) but it is still not a place I want to live ever again. Visiting is fine, and if you do, stay at either Marriott with confidence.

I seemed in the way of the front desk. Had the food at their little restaurant and it was pretty good. Waiter was great. Belongs at a classy restaurant.
My big problem was again back at the front desk. I had paid for this room through Priceline. When I received my credit card statement there was my payment from Priceline. The hotel had also billed my credit card for our stay. (they were paid twice). I phoned the hotel, spoke with Tenicia and she said she would credit our credit card. Well, she didn't. I called the hotel back in March asking for a Manager. The lady at the front desk refused to give me the manager, forcing me to tell her the problem. After reviewing the problem with her, she told me she would have Tenicia call me. As expected she never did.
The credit was finally done on my April statement. I took 4 months for my credit!!
To top it off, we were staying the same night at the same hotel with friends that bought their room on Priceline as well. The ALSO were double charged for their room thanks to the Marriott!!

So I’m driving south from Oregon and stopped at this hotel. One stops at a Courtyard hotel because it’s the McDonalds of hotels. Not great, but if you do any business travel, you know what to expect. Upon arriving at this establishment the desk staff was courteous. The room was clean and as expected. Nothing special, just a room.

The desk staff knew I was driving a car. They knew because the car was sitting out in front of the establishment and I had to write it on the hotel registration.

Here’s my issue: Knowing that I had driven, they did not tell me that the trees in the parking lot dump sap all over anything that is underneath them.

Because I was a ‘walk in’, even with an AAA discount, I had to pay more than $100 for the night. Now the cost of the stay will be much greater as I try to find someone to remove the sap from my brand new Mercedes.

Because of their lack of follow through and / or attention, I won’t stay at a CourtYard again. Nor will anyone in my corporation.

If you need to stay in Stockton for business, I would consider this a third choice after the Marriott Residence Inn (nearly adjacent to this hotel) and the Radisson Hotel Stockton on March Lane (about a mile and a half east of this hotel). The basic problem is noise as March Lane is a six lane road, eight if you include the turn lanes, and generates a lot of noise. If you must stay here, request a room away from the street and at the back or side of the hotel. Unfortunately, my request for such a quiet room on a recent stay was not honored. On the plus side, the rooms are well maintained, neat and clean, and there's a great enclosed whirlpool on the first floor for rehabilitation. There's also a strange little coffee machine on the first floor that provides very good single cup servings to get you caffeinated. On the negative side, the heavy room doors are about the noisest I've ever heard at a Courtyard so you need to be prepared to put up with a lot of slamming noise if you stay there. The adjacent Residence Inn is further away from the noisy street and has quite large rooms. The Radisson is also somewhat quieter, being further off March Lane, but again a room on the back side is preferable. Yes, I would stay here again on business but only if the other two choices were not available.
