Not only a great ski resort in the winter, this little known Sierra mountain gem in the summertime boasts some of the best summer family fun found in the Tahoe area. It's a small village with a handful of lodging, dining, and boutique shops. But a great weekend getaway option for those visiting the Tahoe area. Pics I've submitted were taken end of June 2011, yes, still snow up there, but it was a perfect low 70's in temp, and the views were incredible.
In the village center there's an intricate ropes course, miniature golf, rock climbing, and a sky jump to just name a few. Take the huge gondola up to High Camp (9K feet up) and you will find AMAZING Lake Tahoe panoramic views of the Sierras (my profile pic is one of them), swimming, rollerskating, hiking, a restaurant, and a small museum that houses memorabilia (including old video footage) from the 1960 World Winter Olympics which Squaw hosted. They have a summer concert series up at High Camp where you can enjoy live bands while taking in the gorgeous views.
They used to have horse back riding just down the road from the village, but I believe those stables have closed down. If you are looking for a wonderful gourmet dining experience, try out Christie's near the village (walking distance).
This place is never crowded, and has some fabulous condo style lodging for families...two big thumbs up!
