Okay, this isn't the Ritz, it isn't even Motel 6 (the upgraded properties). Yes, the carpet is a concern (I wouldn't walk barefoot on it), the sheets had a few stains, and the towels are very tired and worn. But the bathroom was clean, the room is big (plenty of space to work and not feel claustrophobic), and the refrig is large enough to put a few days worth of food inside. Bring your own iron and hair dryer.
The best part of this hotel is the convenient access to downtown San Francisco without paying $200 to $400 a night. This hotel is about $85 with tax; online deals can be found for about $78 including tax.
It is a very pleasant, safe. 10 minute walk to the South San Francisco bart station. On the way back from work, you can stop at Trader Joe's, Starbucks, Chase Bank, or Costco. There are several restaurants and a small grocery outlet across the street.
The location is pretty quiet. I did use ear plugs but the one night I forgot to put them in, I still slept great. The people who own/run the hotel are very nice.
If you are working a few days in San Francisco and aren't planning on spending a lot of time in your room, I definitely recommend this location.
