“Good Reviews on this Courtyard - Impossible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2011

I don't know where to start, nor do I know where the people who gave this hotel good reviews stayed; must be the hotel shown on Marriott's website because the actual hotel bears no resemblance to Marriott's web photos. Worn is one thing - this was downright dirty. We are Silver Elite Reward members and own two Marriott timeshares; so I wouldn't give Marriott negative reviews lightly.

The thing everyone always says is "you know what you are getting with Marriott". Not so with this location. We arrived in SF late after a very long flight and were leaving for NY early the next morning. We were taken by Marriott shuttle to the Courtyard - the lobby, front desk, and carpet were absolutely filthy. We were given keys to two rooms. I never saw the other couple's room but they walked in and out of their room saying it was filthy and that the sheets on the bed were threadbare. Our room was dirty. Both couples met in the lobby, went back to the front desk and were given an upgrade immediately. My husband and I took the new key, left our luggage downstairs and proceeded to the third floor to check our room. When we opened the door to the room, a swarm of flies flew in our face. I've never checked trip advisor when booking a Marriott airport location, but while i was writing this I did see all the negative reviews plus a review of bed bugs at the hotel, which I can completely understand.

We immediately went back to the front desk, where I telephoned Marriott Customer Service (which was closed), and was transferred to Reservations. I explained what had happened. The rep was wonderful, immediately called the Marriott SF Airport, booked two rooms for us and arranged to have us taken to the Marriott SFO. She told us the rate was not that the same as Courtyard (higher), but a Customer Service Representative would adjust it the next day. This didn't happen, and both couples were charged the higher rate.

We were completely disappointed in Marriott's handling of this problem; and in the property, which clearly was not up to what we have come to expect as Marriott standards.

Room Tip: Don't stay here unless it is completely remodeled

“ONGOING NIGHTMARE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2011

My boyfriend and I came up for our anniversary. I called with a special request for a higher room overlooking the water. Instead they cancelled the reservation. After finding another room for us for our quick two day trip, we go to check out (barely staying at the hotel at all) and they have charged us for salads or sandwiches that we never ate, or ordered for that matter. And when we told them it was an apparent mistake, they questioned us as if we were lying. They adjusted our bill and gave us the final copy. Three days later I see that they not only charged us that bill but another 220.00 for our hotel stay, which we had booked through Delta a month earlier and paid Delta for the full amount of the trip. Once again, we had to tell them it was a mistake and they said they would look into it. They never did so I had to call Delta and Delta called them to let them know it was infact a prepaid trip through them and I didn't owe Courtyard anything. They said they would refund me but 5 days later I did not see the refund in my bank account so I went back and looked at the confirmation of the refund they sent me. Instead of refunding my Visa/debit card, they refunded some random Mastercard they had in the system. I am still waiting for my refund for charges I was never responsible for and the confirmation they will refund me these charges. They are unprofessional, unorganized and delinquent! Would NOT go back!!!

“Poor Customer Servuce”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2011

My boyfriend and I were there because he was taking a written test as part of his application process for SFPD. At midnight, the fire alarm went off. After about a minute, it shut off. Finally got ahold of the front desk and they said it was a false alarm. Then at 12:30, the alarm goes off again and turns off after 10 seconds.
Then, at 1 am the alarm goes off again and doesn't turn off. We saw 5 firetrucks outside and knew that we had to evacuate. We stood outside in the freezing cold until about 2:00 when the firefighters told us we could go back inside. Unfortunately for my boyfriend, he was only able to get 4 hours of sleep before his test due to this whole ordeal.
When we checked out the next morning we asked if we could get comped for the night before or if there was something that marriott could do for us (free breakfast or a voucher for a free night) and they said there was nothing they could do and walked away from the desk.

NEVER STAYING THERE AGAIN.

“Beautiful property, clean comfotable rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2011

About what you'd expect from a Courtyard. Clean rooms, free internet and a comfortable bed. The staff was friendly and the parking was free. It was just a few miles from the airport and the rooms were quiet.

There was an outstanding walking/running trail outside of the hotel that went around the bay. The hotel was up against the bay on one side and had some scenic hills rising on the other side.

The only small negative was a slight odor coming from the bathroom. I only noticed it for a few minutes before I became used to it. Likely cleaning solvents or possibly smells from the installation of what appeared to be new tile in the bathroom. Again, not too bad, but I noticed it so I thought it worthy of mention.

“Business Travel-3 day review”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2011

Positives- great walking path
Very quiet
Decent restaurant with pretty good selection and specials
Very nice shuttle driver and all staff very helpful
Clean room
Decent bed-not a heavenly bed, but fine, I slept well
Made to order omeletes (13.95 breakfast buffet)
Easy internet, free
Happy hour
Decent cable channels and tv (HBO)
Finally a hotel with a decent iron I wasn't scared to use on my work clothes.

Downside
If you don't have a car there aren't any restaurants in area and nothing to do other than walking path
Gym- very small and stuffy- do like tvs on treadmill tho
Old fashioned heating/ cooling. Loud when on but i didn't need it on.
No gratis water in room
It's the last shuttle stop so it seemed to take 45 minutes but maybe shorter- i was tired & grumpy by that time and just wanted to get to my room
Had to go down and ask for moisterizer every day-housekeeping didn't leave any
