Southern California

...as it should have been during my stays in March 2004 and March 2005!

Anyway, on both occasions, the rooms met my expectations for a high-rise. In spite of the older decor, this place is a lot better than several of the accommodations in South San Francisco and Burlingame.

And even if a $100 deposit is requested on the wireless Internet stuff (that's because of the equipment...the site's system is probably not set up to support dozens, let alone hundreds, of users simultaneously), keep in mind that it IS refundable when everything is returned upon checkout!

“It's a Best Western.”

Best Western Grosvenor Airport Hotel

Nov 1, 2007

I read every single review for this hotel on tripadvisor, and they were mixed. In the end, I kept in mind what the Best Western in Niagara Falls (that we frequent) was like, and booked Airport Grosvenor with that set of expectations. That was the right mindset as we found the Airport Grosvenor to be on par with what we thought a Best Western would be. And that is, this is _NOT_ a Westin, nor a Hyatt. It is Best Western. We found the hotel to be decent, clean, and just fine for our stay (2 nights Oct 5-6).

Breakfast was fine - they really try hard - toast, bagels, yogurt, banana, orange, apples, potatoes, sausage, eggs, croissants, danishes and muffins, instant oatmeal, cold cereals, juices, coffee.

There was wireless. But it's very slow.

The window wasn't closed shut the first night we checked in (at 2am so we were too exhausted to try to figure out why it was so noisy). The next morning we closed the window and it made a big difference - no more noise!

Only minor complain is that the showerhead, although very comfy, was installed at a 5'9" height.

    • Disliked — internet connection slow. shower head too low

“Quick ride to the airport”

The hotel was very accommodating. We arrived at midnight and there were no nonsmoking rooms left so they upgraded us (2 rooms) to 2 suites. The rooms were quiet, the breakfast surprisingly good and it was literally a 5 minute ride to the airport. I can't imagine staying there if I didn't have an early morning flight, but if that's the case, it works well.

“Don't believe the hype”

Best Western Grosvenor Airport Hotel

Oct 10, 2007

THE REVIEWS AT HOTEL.COM FOOLED ME!!
There isn't any wi-fi, you need to have brought an ethernet cable or you must "rent" one for $100- that's right- ONE HUNDRED! Of course they "say" you'll get it back, but I did NOT want to risk it. Especially since right down the street there is a Howard Johnson that does actually have free wi-fi. I had to park there just to use my laptop. VERY INCONVENIENT!!!!

So to help others out, I broke my review down into categories:

Customer Service- LACKING! The only option they have for internet, other than the high fee as mentioned above, is a tiny computer room without any privacy that has one broken computer and another one that is extremely sluggish. When I mentioned this to the night front clerk, his exact words were, "There's nothin' I can do." He did not even say I'll have someone look into it as soon as possible, no, he just stared at his computer while I was talking to him and shrugged it off. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Rooms- Small, but comfortable enough to sleep through all the noise in the hallway and a constant cold breeze through the one inch gap from the door. The windows did not have a tight seal either and it was rather chilly overnight. And the curtains do NOT block out the light!

Breakfast- Even though the food was decent- eggs, potatoes, coffee, tea, oj, cereal....it was the same thing over and over. No variety and my stay here was 5 days long!!!

Parking- It may be free, but it is always difficult to find parking. The only day I found a spot in the hotel lot was when I checked in! The other times I had to park across the street!!!! I felt very much unsafe!

Gym- ok, but tiny-only 4 machines: a treadmill, elipticle, ab, and arm machine. The t.v. in there didn't have a remote and there was no other way to turn it on. I only worked out once because all the other garbage I had to endure kept me busy enough!

The only upside to this hotel is that it's close to downtown San Francisco (10-20 min depending on traffic) and the airport (5-15 min).

OVERALL: I would recommend staying somewhere where the ammenities listed with the hotel are actually true!!!

I am very easy to please regarding Hotel accomadations normally, but I felt that I needed to inform people about this hotel!
I booked my King Size room on their website, and even called them to confirm that my selection of rooms would be available upon my arrival. Upon arriving, the desk informed me that they had overbooked for my two day stay and that I would have to take a Queen sized bed instead of the King size! My wife was with me on this trip so the bigger bed was needed! When I asked for a reduction in room rates I was told that the Queen room cost the same as the King? That was not the answer I was looking for. I had a very hard time communicating with the desk help as his English was more then poor. I found this frustrating.
Now the room! The room was so small that I barely could get into the Queen bed because it was so close to the wall. The Mattress was hard as a rock. The bathroom was so small that I couldn't even sit on the toliet right because it was so close to the shower. I had to sit on it at a 45 degree angle. And lastly, there were only two flat pillows on the bed and there was no wastebags in the trash cans? I had to use a shopping bag as a wastebag.
If I had known in the beginning that this was a 1 star hotel at a 1 star price, everything would have been alright. But it is listed as a 3 star hotel and I found another hotel for the rest of my trip that costed the same but was so much better then this hotel. Do yourself a favor and look hard for other accomadations beside this hotel. You'll be happy you did. The three pluses to this hotel is that they did have smoking rooms, and the air conditioner worked well. They have a shuttle to and from the airport, but then most of the hotels close to the airport also have free shuttle service.
Like I mentioned in the beginning, I am a very easy person to please but found little pleasing about this hotel!
