“Wonderful bed and breakfast-hidden gem in South Pasadena”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2012 via mobile

This is a charming yet elegant bed and breakfast with beautiful views of the San Gabriel Valley. This place is quiet, serene and peaceful and feels like a wonderful escape and yet you feel catered to as well. From the wonderful oatmeal chocokate chip cookies with cheese and crackers and drinks in the early evening when we arrived to the delicious blueberry crumble and eggs florentine served for breakfast, the food is really good. The owner has made sure that you feel well cared for. And this place, a beautiful old craftsman house that is updated, welcoming and eco-friendly. Just perfect. We will definitely be back.

This is a truly extraordinary B&B. It’s especially comfortable. It’s beautiful (inside and out). It’s elegant. It's spacious. It’s well run. It’s delicious (at breakfast). The quality is of a high caliber from the linens to the air conditioning. The Arroyo Vista Inn and it's very nice and enlightened owner offer the comforts of home in a way that the overall experience somehow transcends each of its elements. I was sorry to leave but I'm looking forward to a return visit.

I recently enjoyed a long-term stay at the AVI while on business in Los Angeles. Pat and her staff were exceptionally accommodating. Coming through the front door into the large and welcoming parlor at the end of a busy day really feels like "coming home". I found the commute into downtown Los Angeles an easy 20 minutes, and really appreciated being able to experience the community around the B&B. Waking up each morning to birdsong is a lovely way to start the day. As a business traveler, it is refreshing to encounter a "one price includes everything" rate -- no extra charges for parking, wifi, light snacks, beverages, even taxes (South Pasadena does not have a room tax).

Savoring a sunset from the front-porch is a must-do experience, too. I've had the opportunity to stay in nearly every room at the Inn. Each has its own delightful trademark. The beds and linens are extremely comfortable, the amenities are plentiful, and the views are food for the soul. I can't wait to get back for my next visit!

Room Tip: Room 2 has access to a lovely veranda, while Room 4 has an amazing soaking tub.

Pat, our hostess, made us so comfortable that it felt like we were family. Except that we didn't have to do the dishes after breakfast. The living room invites relaxation and conversation with the other guests. The wine, cheese and cookies fuel the conversation. Chillin on the front porch is so comfortable and pleasant that one could forget that there must have been a reason we flew to LA that called for us to leave to attend to events.

Pat went out of her way to deal with special needs. Breakfasts were great.

The bedrooms and baths are nicely appointed and very comfortable.

This was our second visit and we can't imagine staying anywhere else when in the LA area.

Room Tip: Oak Terrace room is very spacious, Day Break has a spa tub.

I stay at the AV Inn a few times each year to escape the hustle and bustle of life. I recently returned from a 2 night stay and as usual, every aspect of my experience was first-rate. As other reviewers have commented, each of the rooms is lovely and the setting is super relaxing. It was fun mingling with the others guests and meeting Pat's family. The whole experience is highly personal, a nice combination of pleasant conversation with others and opportunities to enjoy solitary time whenever needed. I can't wait to return. It's truly a special experience to be there.

Room Tip: Try and book a room with a spa tub or private balcony to make your stay extra special.

Unlike many luxury B&B's that advertise a jetted soaking tub for two these days, our tub at Arroyo Vista really was big enough for two to relax in comfort and deep enough to be immersed in warmth. The rooms were very clean and tidy and there was plenty of comfortable quiet space in the common room. We enjoyed sitting by the fountain and soaking up a spot of early spring sunshine. The day of my late departure it was pouring down rain, yet a spent a very pleasant hour reading on the spacious covered porch. The wi-fi service was interrupted one evening, yet the folks on site were very cooperative in letting me find the plug that came loose from the router and it was quickly up and running again. Arroyo Vista is a surprisingly quiet and secluded spot just off the maze of crowded Southern California freeways, however we did not find it to be in a particularly walkable neighborhood.

Room Tip: Our Forest View room really did not have a view, but I did not much miss it. Other rooms do have fai...

Our 2-day visit was wonderful: exquisite accommodation, both the room and view of the mountains, gourmet breakfast, easy access to Pasadena and Los Angeles, and friendly and helpful innkeeper and staff. We look forward to our next stay.
