“Loved our 5 night stay at the Bissell House B and B while celebrating our 45th”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2007

We recently returned from a 5 night stay at the Bissell House B and B in S. Pasadena while celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary. It was the perfect place for dipping into a former era of service, style and comfort. Such a romantic get away. The innkeepers were delightful company and couldn't do enough for us. They cooked us gourmet breakfasts on the weekend. A large table of coffee, tea, drinks and gourmet desserts plus refrigerators full of treats, wine, fruit were fully supplied 24/7. We didn't get through the list of activities we had planned because we enjoyed staying at the house so much, reading in the well stocked lilbrary and relaxing on the spacious front porch. You owe yourself a delightful stay at the Bissell House, it is the best B and B we have ever visited!

What a lovely place! The rooms were so comfortable and the hospitality outstanding. The owners could not have made our stay more enjoyable. They also were a font of information about the home and the area, including the fact that Albert Einstein was a guest a while (long while) back. The amenities with the luxurious sheets and robes, hors d'ouevres, scrumptious breakfast, freshly popped popcorn, and freshly made chocolate chip cookies are not to be beat. One of the best places we have ever stayed. We stayed in Victoria's room--although it was smaller than most of the others, it more than made up with the beautiful solarium that overlooked the pool. A great place to have early morning coffee and nestle in with a good book. Take back the Ritz, Westin, Sheraton, etc--this is an absolute gem!

What a charming and wonderful place to stay! We were there for almost two weeks and the food and service were excellent every day! The Bissell House is like a shining jewel in South Pasadena! The gardens around the home are amazing! To our delight, every day we found new, HUGE, sweet smelling roses!

We were totally satisfied with our accomodations and the atmosphere inside and outside this lovely home! We can't wait to stay there again! The staff were so friendly and helpful that we had a perfect business/vacation! Thank you again!

Sincerely,

Nathan & Carol Bales

This was an awesome bed and breakfast. It was where my wife and I spent our wedding night. It was clean, cute, and very romantic. The beds where soft and the rooms were decorated very tastefully. The rooms had all the amenities you could ever want. The staff was great and very respectful. They even upgraded our room for us at no additional charge because it was our honeymoon! I don't think they do that normally, so it made us feel really special. The grounds were immaculately kept and very beautiful. We felt bad that we had to leave so early the next day to catch our flight. We would have loved to stroll around in the gardens for a while.

The breakfast the next day was tasty as well and the staff bent over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast was served on beautiful dishes and an elegantly decorated table. All in all, this was a great place to stay and I would recommend it for any couple who wants a romantic place to stay or anyone who just wants a cozy and comfortable room.

  • Liked — The clean and romantic rooms and the friendly, ever-so-helpful staff
  • Disliked — The room was a little smaller than I thought, but still worth it

Living only 45 miles from The Bissell House, we used this as a weekend getaway from life's hustle and bustle. As everyone notes, this B&B is a joy, from the period piece antiques to its scrumptiously prepared breakfasts each weekend morning. The grounds are beautifully kept, luscious green and its airy porch allowed us to sit and watch the hummingbirds. We found our hosts extremely friendly, full of information about the Inn, a good resource for local dining and eager to meet your every need. In addition to the breakfasts, there are always treats available in the living room, with hot tea or coffee, wine ready, and sodas in the 'fridge. We were very pleased by the service.

In reading the other reviews here, a few comments are in order. Yes, the location is near a busy street, but the traffic died down at night and didn't bother our sleep, especially in the fabulous feather beds. If you are concerned, tell then you want one of the rooms that face the back of the house, towards the pool and jacuzzi. Also, the Morning Glory room had less than ideal water pressure in the antique shower arrangement. Some of the rooms have more modern showers fixtures. Our biggest recommendation would be that you spring for the more expensive rooms, as they are larger, have king size beds, and are worth the extra $100. All rooms have central AC/heat. If TV is a must, these larger rooms are equipped with small flat-screens, though there is a common sitting area/library downstairs with a TV. History buffs should take note that Albert Einstein was a dinner visitor once, and the house's web site can give you the details. The house stocks a good size, eclectic library.

During our visit we met several couples who come regularly from out of state, and that's really the best indication of the overall outstanding experience which awaits you at The Bissell House. Book one of the larger rooms, and treat yourself to a delightful early 19th century experience.

We have been traveling all over the country for a personal project and were delighted to find the Bissell House in our very own backyard (city next door)! As we mention on our site, it is probably the most aesthetically pleasing (like another reviewer said: "eye candy") B&B we've been to in the past year...inside & out! It was so nice just walking around the house and the grounds, soaking in the beautiful garden and the wonderful history. Although we didn't get to meet Juli in person, she was GREAT during the booking with us and her sis, Jennifer the consummate host (who treated us to an incredibly yummy "Persian omelette"). Also, those cookies (another guest mentioned too) are ridiculously good. Since we are more tea people than coffee, we appreciated the loose leaf teas available 24/7. B&B connoiseurs: you will love the Bissell House!

My first visit to a bed and breakfast took me to the Bissell House. I was in LA on both business and pleasure. The house itself is eye candy to the coniseur of antiques. My mother traveled with me for the first night and was treated the next morning to a lovely experience of history telling by Juli's father. The innkeepers are truly loves-- very friendly and willing to make you feel at home. Always fresh snacks and coffee or tea to satisfy. I stayed a work week there and if I have the availability-- it is where I will stay again. I was very comfortable and had WiFi to continue to work.
Keep up the good work Juli and Jen.
