We like to stay in old hotels to experience their history. This is an older property and, according to other comments, I was expecting it to be just a bit more rough. However we were very pleased with the room. The furnishings have been updated and everything was clean. Our room was on the second floor overlooking a busy street so I was expecting a lot of that noise. I found by turning on the air conditioning equipment (fan only since it wasn't all that hot) I did not hear anything outside of the room. We would have liked a table or desk top for writing but that was the only furniture that was missing. There were two big problems; one hard to fix and one that should be fixed. The "hard to fix" was the old plumbing. When taking a shower, if others were doing the same, the temperature did fluctuate quite a bit. Of course to fix that problem, they'll have to gut the building and replace all pipes. If that happens, I couldn't afford the place anyway and they would lose a lot of charm. So I just went with the flow, so to speak, and enjoyed the history. The other problem was the terrible breakfast. It is about as cheap as one can get. The first day, while slowly working my way through the cheap food, I watched the other guests. None were pleased with what they found. After that, we went out and just bought our breakfast at a local restaurant. So you might plan that cost into the price of the room if you are considering this hotel.
