“Mixed bag”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2011

A very mixed review in all aspects for this shop. First, the most important part: The food. The tortilla chips were fantastic; warm, tasty, and free. The salsa served with the chips was okay, nothing great. I ordered a Big Ranch burrito with carne asada, and my wife got a Garlic Garlic burrito pastor. The burritos were huge, but didn't have a whole lot of meat. The carne asada was okay, and I didn't care for the pastor at all (it just tasted like overdone, flavorless pork). The burritos are pretty spendy at $11 a piece; at that price, there is better food else where to be had.

The service was also mixed. Our table seemed split between two servers, one older lady and one younger lady. The older lady just seemed like she wanted to go home. She wasn't very helpful with recommendations and seemed tired, although she did warm up a bit towards the end. The younger lady was fantastic, very friendly and helpful, and she also brought some chicken for our dog.

I really wanted to like this place, especially given the large burritos, the service from the younger lady attending us, and the dog-friendliness. If I lived in Sonoma, I'd eventually give Juanita Juanita another try, but as a visitor, I would try someplace else.

“If you like lots of pinto beans, this is your place. It's also a dump.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2010

Full disclosure, I lived in Texas for many years and love TexMex food. TexMex is generally served in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. As an example, a TexMex beef burrito will be mostly beef. The beef will be tasty on it's own and will be chunk size. The chips will not generally be greasy. On the other hand, an authentic Mexican beef burrito, as served at Juanita, Juanita, will be about 95% pinto beans and any beef you might find will be mostly tasteless. I also dislike greasy chips.

Let's be honest, Mexico is, for the most part, a poor society. They simply can't afford expensive ingredients like good beef in their food. Beans are cheap, beef and chicken are relatively expensive. Authentic Mexican food is incredibly cheap to make. You get what you pay for.

Lastly, we've all heard of folks traveling to France or Italy to get good food. Have you ever heard of anyone going to Mexico to get good food? I think there's a reason.....

“Good food Mean Proprietor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2009

Yes the food is expensive but it is good. What ruins the whole experience is the bad attitude of the owner. I had read other reviews about her but went anyway - they were right. Go when she is not working.

“unique and tasty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2009

Careful or you'll drive by . . .

Doesn't look like much from the outside. But the menu is complete and the food is authentic and fantastic. Large portions. Little bit of heat (no surprise) in the chorizo! Very good service.

We sat on the neat little patio featuring very well-used furniture and went out of our way to return a second time.
