“Great location and nice rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2010

Stayed in a suite which is in a separate building (above the conference centre) well away from the rest of the hotel (across a car park so not great if you want to use the pool). The room was a reasonably big space with two balconies. You can also sit in the jacuzzi bath and watch TV though shutters which open out onto the main room. Good fun and very social. Slightly worn carpet and furnishings but great bed.
The location is the real winner here. From our building it was just two blocks to the main square. Try and visit the Farmers Market which is once a week in the square.
Overall we had a great time in Sonoma and there are lots of good reasons to base yourself in this hotel.

The Sonoma Valley Inn is a bit expensive for what you get, but this is made up by the wonderful location which is just a few minutes walk from the main square in Sonoma. Whole Foods and lots of other shops are located just across the street.

The room was a little dated (older furnishings, a little dark, and old tv), but still clean and very decent- we were only in town for one night and so it was fine. The lobby has free coffee, iced tea, etc., which is a nice perk. There's a nice pool and spa on the grounds. The hotel is also one of the few in the area that allows dogs for a $35 fee.

Breakfast was pretty mediocre- you order it by phone the night before, and in the morning you get a tray of cold cereal, or a bagel, hard boiled, egg, etc.

Still, this is one of the cheapest hotels in Sonoma proper and the location can't be beat. Overall, we had a great time here and would definitely stay here again.

A great hotel in a lovely setting. Continental breakffast is delivered to your room in a basket and is very good.Well located to explore Sonoma and surrounding wineries.
Only problem was noise from the rooms on the second floor, if we visited this area again we would stay here but request a 2nd floor room.

We stayed at Sonoma Valley Inn for two nights as it was our base center to visit both Sonoma and Napa Valleys. It was really comfortable and relaxing, even more if you plan to spend a lot of time going from one vineyard to another. Rooms are really big, with all facilities you may need. We even had a chimney in our room!
Breakfast is brought directly to your room every morning and, although it is a bit scarce, is really good in terms of quality.
Staff was friendly and willing to help. Location was perfect, two minute walk to the main square, Sonoma Plaza, where you can find good restaurants and historic buildings.

When booking this hotel (we were staying for 2 nights), we were over-whelmed by the choice in Napa/Sonoma etc. Having stayed in Best Westerns in the past, we knew what we were getting and felt that we didn't have to spend over $300 a night. The rooms are very spacious, clean, free tea/coffee. lovely fireplace, views of the pool area. Hotel staff extremely helpful, offering to book places for supper. They gave free tasting vouchers when we checked in to a number of different wineries - saving us (a couple) about $30 in total.
A short walk to the centre of Sonoma (max 3 mins). Parking easy right outside your door. Small gym with a couple of machines (helps work off the excess wine!).

Top Tips
- Go for an early evening wine tasting in Roche Vineyards (on the corner of the north-west corner of main square in Sonoma). Extremely friendly. On the day we visited they had an oyster bbq.
- Restaurants - everyone raved about The Fig and The Girl. Good meal but did not quite live up to the hype and fairly pricey. We enjoyed a fun pizzeria just to the south of the square called Red Pizza (I think!). Walking around the town centre about 5pm was a wonderfully relaxed experience and a good way to check out the various rest/bars on offer. Very safe area.
- Touring vineyards - we booked a tandem with Sonoma Valley Tours. Excellent value and they gave us a couple of routes to choose from.
- Buy your own lunch from Basque Boulangerie Deli in the centre of Sonoma. They do perfect sized packed lunches for visiting vineyards. Every vineyard we visited allowed you to take a picnic and provide glasses to have your wine. The picnis areas were simply stunning. A must to do in Sonoma.

We stayed 3 nights and it was perfect for what we were looking for. The hotel is located just 2 blocks from the Sonoma Plaza, the rooms are large and clean and there is a great pool area for relaxing in the afternoon. Our room had a fireplace and over looked the pool. The hotel has a small but decent fitness center, friendly staff and coffee, tea and hot chocolate in the lobby throughout the day. There was a complimentary wine tasting in the pool area on Friday night and as a guest at the hotel you received free reserve tastings for two at Cline and Jacuzzi.

We really enjoyed our stay and would stay here again on our next trip to Sonoma.
