Description: The DEPOT HOTEL RESTAURANT is a charming neighborhood restaurant located in an historic stone building just a block off the Plaza in Sonoma. Locals and visitors to the Wine Country enjoy casual Tuscan-inspired cuisine in the Vinoteca, in the cozy dining rooms, and on the terraces surrounding the shady Italian garden and reflection pool. Food is a passion at the DEPOT HOTEL RESTAURANT for the father and son Chef team--whether it is making house-made antipasti, or handmade pasta, or fresh ricotta. In addition to products made in-house, the Sonoma wine country around us offers an abundance of new artisanal products. The search for the best local products is a treasure hunt both chefs enjoy--whether from the coast, local farms, or local cheese makers. Come join us for a trattoria-style lunch or dinner...or just drop into our Vinoteca for informal small plates of antipasti and a glass of wine. Our focus is casual Italian comfort food--served in an informal Sonoma wine country atmosphere.

“Don't go here for a holiday meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

Make a reservation at an "off time" otherwise it is a little crazy in this small building. Very nice setting but sometimes they try and get too many people in and forget about the special attention to the ones already there.

“Wonderful New Year's eve! So much food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

We celebrated New Year's eve with dinner at the Depot Hotel restaurant. Because it was New Year's eve it was obviously run a little different than if it had been a regular night. The menu was Prix Fixe and probably an abbreviation of what they normally would have to offer.
We started with a glass of Moscato D'Asti for the occasion. The nice thing about that was that since we purchased a drink from their menu they did not charge us a corkage fee later for the wine we had brought in. Nice gesture!
We often share entrees, so each having our own ended up being so much food and the portions were generous to start with! The food was well prepared and tasty. The restaurant is set in an older building that gives you the feel of being in a pioneer era location rather than Italy but was not an issue.
The wait staff was prompt and attentive. We were well taken care of.
We did have a nice experience at the Depot Hotel restaurant.

“One of Sonoma's Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

Just had a holiday lunch at the Depot, maybe the most underated restaurant in Sonoma, as it's off the Sonoma Plaza a block or so. The Tortellini's are the best I've ever had period! I also tried the Tripe, which was remarkable, although no one in the group was adventurous enough to share. The staff was as good as the food, friendly and professional. Whether you're visiting from out of town or a local, I would pass on the The Girl and the....and go where the locals dine.

“food for locals”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

This is a great place and great food. The only problem is flies. I wish they would have supplied me with a fly swatter. I feel certain that if they spent about 15 minutes a day in the afternoon killing them more people would be there in the evening.

The closer we get to harvest time in Sonoma Valley, the more "insect life," becomes an issue in Sonoma. It is a battle we wage constantly...to let the customers in, but keep flying insects out! We actually do work hard to try and keep all insects out and employ a service to assist us. However, on a beautiful summer day, and often when customers ask for the doors and windows open to enjoy a beautiful day....the inevitable happens! We apologize for the inconvenience to Dick and promise him will work even harder to keep any "unwanted visitors" out!
