“Nice Inn near Sonoma Plaza”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

My husband and I stayed here while on our one year anniversary trip to Sonoma. We wanted to stay somewhere larger than a bed and breakfast, but not quite a commercialized hotel. When we arrived at the inn we were quickly greeted by the front desk staff. She showed us around the property and showed us to our room. We had a king room on the second floor. We stayed in the king room for 3 nights and then had to move to a queen room on the first floor on the last night because all of the king rooms were booked. We had no problem moving and the housekeeper actually moved our luggage to our new room. When I went downstairs to inform the front desk that our luggage was ready to be moved the lady at the front desk was really confused and said that a king room can't move to a queen room. I explained to her I had booked the room 6 months ago and at the time there was not a problem. She did find the paperwork showing the move, but she didn't seem to want to be very accommodating. We headed out for the day and by the time we got back our new room was ready. We actually liked the queen room better than the king room. It felt roomier and there was a mini-fridge and Keurig coffee maker in the room which we did not have in the king room. I would probably stay at the Inn at Sonoma again, but some of the staff needs to work on being friendlier and more accommadating to the guests.

We made reservations several months ago and even called the hotel to confirm what type of room we wanted (King with a patio on the first floor). They confirmed and we arrived to a Queen on the second floor. They offered to move us the next day but we declined not wanting to spend our time packing and unpacking. A pleasant call from the manager with an apology but nothing more. The hotel did nothing to compensate for their error, no reduction in rate, a bottle of wine (this is wine county you know) or a small piece of chocolate—nope nothing!!!!

Nice staff, small rooms, good breakfast. Although the staff could be directed to say hello to folks staying at the hotel when you walk by the desk. Not certain if I will be back (we go to Sonoma every year). Careful of your reservations.

We stayed here for one night in August, and arrived before check in but were able to leave our suitcases whilst we went off to explore the area. When we returned, the bags had been taken to our room. The room was large with all the amenities one would expect - nice bathroom. The decor was slightly twee for my taste, and had a teddy bear on the bed - but hey I don't live there, I'm only staying the night! The choice at the breakfast buffet was large enough to be interesting but not too confusing. If we go back to Sonoma, I will stay there again.

Pro:
+Friendly, helpful staff
+Large lobby and sitting area; also used for buffet breakfast
+Coffee, tea and delicious cookies always available
+Good breakfast buffet (would be even better with more variety day-to-day)
+Rooms are very well appointed/decorated, in excellent condition
+All rooms have a small porch (fresh air is fantastic but views are of parking lot or porch wall)
+Inn is a 5-minute walk to the main square; also well-located for exploring Sonoma and Napa
+Good internet access

Con:
-Staff go off duty at 7:30PM and then there is no one onsite to deal with problems that may arise, late check-ins, etc. At $300 per night at an 18 room inn, I would expect 24-hour coverage.
-In the rooms, three small drawers are not enough space for 2 people to unpack (our room was deluxe king)
-What's with the Teddy bear on the bed?

This hotel is a great value! We originally made our selection based on location and cost, this hotel being the cheapest we found right in the center of town. We were thrilled to find that it was also adorable with excellent service! We arrived right in time for wine and cheese out on the patio, followed by our personal tour of the facility. Our room was clean and uniquely styled, with a huge, very modern bathroom, and the hotel has a decent rooftop hot tub. We were walking distance to great restaurants and tasting rooms. As far a free hotel breakfasts go, this one had far more variety than most. You get the experience of a high end wine country inn without the high cost! I would absolutely stay here again!

We were in town from LA to attend the Haraszthy 200th celebration at the Buena Vista Winery.

The hotel is located on the main stretch as you head into Sonoma right before you get to the town square.

We are greeted at the desk and then escorted to our room, kind of nice.

Later, they have wine and cheese for hotel guests around 4:30pm.

Breakfast was not large yet was good and healthy.

Our family wil return when the Grand Opening of the Buena Vista Winery is complete.

Thanks again!!
:)

My husband and I heard great reviews about this inn so we were looking forward to our stay. We have travelled quite a bit, particularly in California, so paying this amount of money for such a poor facility was veery disappointing.
1. Wine and cheese - for an inn situated in a location with the most amazing wineries at numerous price points, we couldn't believe the plonk that was served. We've stayed at many B&Bs/inns throughout CA and we have never had such horrid wine. In addition, the crackers were not replenished.
2. Breakfast - the inn prides itself on its great breakfasts. At one breakfast alone, the following was not replenished until someone specifically asked for it: OJ, the main course, bread, butter and the best ---- cutlery. With two people supposedly looking after breakfast, this begs the question as to why no one was monitoring the buffet table.
3. Refreshments - Coffee, tea and water are offered all day. This is Sonoma where the temp regularly hovers around 90 in the summer. Would it be possible to provide drinking glasses that are bigger than 3-4 oz?
4. Umbrellas - we paid extra for a room with a balcony, which was nice to have. However, between noon and 4:30, you could fry an egg. Are umbrellas too expensive to provide? Particularly when we paid $245 per night?
5. Free wi-fi - while the inn provides free service, the Internet connection is ridiculous. You can't use it in your room and we had to go downstairs repeatedly over 3 days to ask the front desk to turn the router on and off in order to reset it. The front desk staff is obviously trained to tell people that the router "sometimes" has problems. I'm sorry but this isn't acceptable. If you're going to advertise wi-fi, then make sure that it works. Routers are not that expensive.

We heard many others complaining as well, so while we've taken the time to post this and ensure that others don't get ripped off, it doesn't mean that we're the only ones.

This inn needs to look at how to improve its services.
