Had a delicious and huge breakfast. The ricotta pancakes are especially flavorful, light and perfectly browned. Even went for a chocolate milkshake to round out this delicious meal.

“The Fremont Diner in Sonoma - farm fresh wine country food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

Driving through the Carneros region in southern Sonoma County you’re surrounded by miles and miles of rolling vineyards, mostly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that produce some of the world’s finest wines of those varietals. Focus too much on the scenery and you’re likely to miss The Fremont Diner on the northwest corner Highway 12 and South Central Avenue. Unless it’s a sunny weekend when Wine Adventurers come out in droves and are looking for a bite between tastings. On these days, the parking lot is usually full and the diner is packed – with a couple dozen or more waiting out front for a table.
The Fremont is a classic roadhouse diner with an old fashioned farm fresh menu. In a neighborhood where $200 bottles of wine aren’t hard to find, the Diner serves up great food at reasonable prices. No wine snobbery or haut cuisine, water and wine are served in mason jars and the service is quick and friendly.
On weekends there is a break between lunch and dinner during which only the snack and dessert menus are served (dinner starts at 5pm Thursday thru Sunday). Since on this visit it was mid-afternoon, we ate light: fried asparagus, nachos and a glass of tasty Stemmler Pinot Noir. We finished with a very light bread pudding that proved filling enough to continue on our way happy. Total bill: about $35. A great stop while wine tasting in Carneros.

“"Charming Shack..don't drive past!"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

Asked for advice at hotel for lunch...Fremont Diner...we were told was the best in the area! What a wonderful eating experience, under this rustic roof lies layers of good food, well presented and service with smiles and time for their quests. Loved the open kitchen and as we sat at the bar area, it just made the whole experience more worth while! Which I could go back...

“Best Breakfast Ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2014

Seriously this was the best breakfast ever! Not only does this rustic spot ooze charm, have a lovely friendly staff but the food is over the top. Sausage with lemon skin, sage and fennel and black pepper biscuit hash were stand outs. The bucket of biscuits is worth the extra calories, they are served with warm homemade jam.

“Road side dive - extremely rustic ambiance, very good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2014

Wanting to try something new for lunch we found their high rating on TripAdvisor and decided to give it try. Being rated the third best restaurant in the Sonoma area is a reach, but for very casual eating it is very good.

The ambiance is extremely rustic, more like a small shack for indoor seating and the open kitchen; as you enter the shack there is an old photo booth immediately to the left, five feet later is a service window behind which is the kitchen. The walls are covered with random signage. The inside seating is augmented by an attached "tent" with clear plastic enclosing three sides and corrugated metal with a sign/mural proclaiming Sonoma providing the fourth side. Inside the tent are 12 picnic tables sitting on a fine gravel floor. A local chicken wandered around inside the tent picking up fallen scraps.

The menu is not that of fine dining, but oriented to breakfast/lunch. We had the Whole Hog (pork) sandwich with Mac & Cheese and the El Chavo with Butter Bean Salad. The sandwiches were good sized, showed creativity in their preparation and were very flavorful. The Mac & Cheese was quite good (not a favorite of mine) and the Butter Bean salad again presented very interesting and tasteful flavors.

Our server was friendly and helpful. We asked her what kind of chicken was wandering around and she said she didn't have a clue, but five minutes later she came by the table and told us what is was - a nice gesture.

Based on our limited selections it was a very nice lunch. Other dishes on nearby tables looked good also. Good enough to return and try additional dishes since the food is quite good and prices very reasonable - we'll just not do it for a special occasion, will wear the grubbies and ignore the ambiance.

Note - we arrived at 12:20 and had to wait 35 minutes. When we left those coming in were told it would be an hour wait - the place is very busy.
