“Great Place to Stay in Sonoma”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

This is a great place to stay in Sonoma. The grounds are well kept and it nice and peaceful. It has a great pool and friendly staff. It's close to Sonoma square only about a 10 minute drive and they also have tennis courts available and some hiking options.

We stayed in a Fairmont Hotel room which is one of the smaller rooms on the ground floor in a wing near the lobby. I did not mind the cozy size, as the room was nicely done with good decor, furnishings and amenities. We had a view of the inner courtyard grounds with large picture window, plus bathroom window. I did notice the rooms facing out to the front of the property were a bit larger with a couch, when ours had just a chair. If you are saving money then either way these standard rooms are comfortable. In looking at a vacate suite, it was obvious that it was a better treat if you are able to pay a higher rate. Most suites had a balcony or patio and much bigger sq ft. Our bed was the best asset to the room. Quality sheets and pillows as we had wonderful nights of sleep. Bathroom was large enough with bath/shower combo. Plenty of hot water and pressure. Robes and rubber slippers provided for going to the pool. Nice big closets, room safe and coffee maker. They do offer free coffee in the lobby in the morning hours. Room service is very expensive, so I would suggest the short walk to their diner called Big 3. Breakfast here is about half of room service charge, or even better bet is to walk across the street as there is a darling coffee place there with muffins, bagels etc. if you want a lighter breakfast. The grounds of this property have beautiful landscape and darling seating areas to enjoy sitting outside with a good book or just soaking in the sunshine. The Fairmont is located in an odd spot, a few miles away from the town square. Not much around this hotel. They do offer a car into town but only a few options of time for this service. The spa is probably the best part of this property. The locker rooms could use some fresh carpet and paint, as they do look tired. The other areas are nicely done for using the mineral baths. This is a co-ed facility so make sure to pack a bathing suit or spend a fortune to buy one. Spa services are a bit pricey, but the bellman gave us a coupon to discount. Do not miss the upper small pool near locker rooms. It has mineral water, heated to 98 degrees with piped in under water piano music playing. You can only hear this when you are floating with your head and ears submerged in the water. Floating tubes available here to help you out. It is hands down the best experience ever, and worth the price of admission. The workout room is very nice with excellent cardio equipment. Customer service throughout the resort was top notch. I only had a few complaints. The Fairmont allows pets here, with apparently no size restriction. There was a large dog in our wing of the hotel and we could hear him bark on a few occasions, which is unexpected in a high end hotel such as this. Our bathroom had a fan that ran 24/7. I assume this is to keep mold down and better air circulation. We had to shut the bathroom door to quiet things for sleeping. Parking is also tough, as some nights the lot was full and it was difficult to find a spot without a long walk. A few drawbacks, but still a lovely stay.

I just returned from the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa and let's just say, I didn't want to leave! Great spa, front desk, concierge (Robyn was awesome and helpful), even the bellmen were adorable (David)! I loved that everyone walked around in robes after their spa/pool visits and the grounds were so pretty. They had a firepit out front to roast marshmallows and lots of pretty sitting areas if you wanted privacy. The rooms were great, so clean and well taken care of. I would absolutely go back!

The hotel was great from the rooms to the staff very friendly and helpful. Great Hotel. I would definitely stay here again. Only issue was with parking but you can get it valeted for free so even that wasn't an issue.

As others may have mentioned, this hotel is listed as 'historical' so that typically means it was converted with newer amenities but the rooms are typically smaller; ours was no exception. The room size can be considered 'intimate' but NOT cramped by any means. We loved the long converted closet with its 'auto on' light and 2 folding stands for luggage hidden away behind an old original door as well as a bathroom with an actual window but no short cuts on comfort (two types of showers, full tub, etc.). Bed was quite comfortable and loved the 2 windows that looked our on the front grounds. Being a historical hotel, no elevators so keep that in mind before booking; we never minded the stairs. The grounds outside were very well kept up and if you happen to own a Tesla EV they have chargers right out front. At least during our stay they had complimentary wine tasting very night -- we skipped that and went on our own winery tours as well as their somewhat pricey restaurants in favor of others in the area. Only other negative would be is that there is not a lot within walking distance of the hotel but as we rented a car anyway not an issue in car crazy CA. If visiting Sonoma its a great place to check out.

Room Tip: if you want to open your windows stay as far as possible from the main entrance as the smoke from th...

Green Features: Having an EV charging station in front was a definite plus!

I’ve enjoyed staying at the Fairmont’s in Boston, so I was looking forward to staying at their location in Sonoma. It was a very nice hotel, but I didn’t find it was in a great area - there isn’t much to walk to directly outside the hotel. The room we were in was nice but very small. The staff was also very friendly and accommodating, we got a lot of great restaurant recommendations from one of the bellman. I was here for a conference, which they did a great job with and the catered food was very good.

Room Tip: the main building does not have elevators

This hotel is definitely one to put on your list of must stays. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. When in the hotel you become oblivious to any of the surrounding area and experience its tranquility.
