“Great stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2013

We stayed here for a five nights using our Marriott Reward points. We were looking to spend a nice and relaxing time in wine country after dealing with a personal tragedy and this hotel made us feel pampered and well taken care of. The suite we stayed in was superb with gorgeous views of the pool. The espresso machine provided in the room came in handy in the mornings as did the complimentary wine & cheese we received upon arrival. We enjoyed spending the early evenings sitting on the balcony overlooking the pool after spending the day at the wineries.

The restaurant on site (Carneros Bistro) was expensive but delicious. We decided to eat there the first evening we were there as we were tired from a long flight from the East coast. Sonoma has several good restaurants which are about a mile from the hotel.

There was a little shop in the lobby (Bean & Bottle) that had breakfast foods as well as wine tastings. We also attended a complimentary wine education class (hosted by the Carneros Bistro's sommelier) which I believe happens one a week. Highly recommended.

We found the location of this hotel to be great. You will need a car to visit the different wineries available in the area, but this is expected. The concierge was helpful in helping us decide which wineries to visit. His recommendations were spot on.

Overall we had a great stay!

Our final hotel of a 12 day 5 stop trip so it's always slightly anxiety provoking that it won't be as good as some of the others, but no worries here. Lovely cottage based accommodation with nice room, fireplaces, and a great bath separated by shutters from the living area. We were blessed with bright sunny but cold weather so a swim in the outdoor heated pool was solitary and delightful. Beautiful well maintained grounds, great wine tasting in the evening and a really helpful concierge Dominique (although called a navigator here). The main hotel is a lovely building with various intriguing artworks. Finally great helpful staff generally and a shuttle bus into town so you can enjoy the wine tasting or a drink with your dinner and relax.
Finally a great Spa with probably the best pedicure I've ever had.

Room Tip: Cottage room was very good, low number cottages are closer to the pool

I really enjoyed my time at the Lodge at Sonoma. It's in a great location for visiting Sonoma, and our accomodations (one of the cottages) was lovely, with a fireplace and a garden tub. I wasn't hugely impressed with the service we received at the wine/cheese bar. I understand it was busy, but we kept getting passed over by the bartender/server. It also took three calls and finally a trip to the front desk desk to get extra toiletries one day. Those things are pretty minor though, I'd definitely stay here again the next time I am lucky enough to visit beautiful Sonoma.

Our three night stay at The Lodge was great. The grounds were very clean and beautiful even tho it was Fall with rain and wind. We were in a cottage that was very clean and comfortable with a fireplace and a small bottle of wine to greet us! They had a shuttle that was available to give us rides to Sonoma Plaza even tho it was within walking distance. It was rainy and windy when we were there so we were not able to enjoy the pool area and would have liked to have a DVD player to use in our room so we could watch a movie and keep warm by the fireplace. We had a problem with sluggish draining in the bathroom sink and they sent someone out to take care of the problem immediately.

The staff service was excellent! Everyone was most helpful. Concierge was helpful with maps and directions for us and Tom at the front desk was very personable and helpful as we had problems with another cottage making noise wee hours of the night and kept us up…..besides being a driver for the shuttle!

We dined at Carneros Bistro the hotel restaurant and the food was excellent! We had breakfast every morning that we stayed and had eggs benedict, petaluma eggs and their mouthwatering French toast that was light and fluffy for breakfast. Much of their vegetables are even grown in planters outside their restaurant…..farm to fork fresh!!! Everything was cooked to perfection! Christina, our morning waitress was superb. She was most friendly and helpful, taking a personal interest in making our stay a wonderful time. We also had dinner there one of our nights and the food was also delicious. We had lamb and it was cooked perfectly. My favorite is butternut squash soup and they did an outstanding job. Also had a side of roasted beets and these were also the best I have had!

The nightly wine tasting was nice but would have been better to have some cheese and crackers too. It was nice to taste some of the wines in the local area and not have to drive all over to the wineries.

Marriott hotels/resorts always does a 5 star job at the places that we have stayed at! We would definitely want to return for a stay again in the future, perhaps in the spring/summertime when the rose garden is blooming and more foliage on the Japanese maples!

Room Tip: Cottages are very nice with a fireplace and second floor might have more of a view of the hills that...

The Lodge in Sonoma is just charming, especially if you can get one of the "Cottages" . The location is close to the square which the hotel shuttle services. There is a great little store and deli just 50 yards away. The pool area is very lovely and includes a gas fire pit with seating. The Consierge group are very helpful with dinner plans and wine tours. Best of all they have free wine tasting every night in the bar! Marriott does it again!

Room Tip: Try to get one of the "Cottages"

I had a business meeting in Sacramento, so my wife and I padded our trip to stay in Sonoma for a few extra days. Our last trip was to Napa, where we stayed in Yountville, so we thought it was appropriate to venture to Sonoma to see what it was all about. It was not hard to convince me to stay at a Renaissance property, as I am always very happy with them.

The Room
The trip started off great when we were upgraded to a Cottage, where I had booked a room in the main building. We stayed in room C-1, which was the building closest to the pool. Our room was perfect, with a gas fireplace and small living room area. My wife used the bath tub every day and we had the fireplace on almost the entire time we were in the room. I didn't sleep that well while I was there, but it might have been just me. I am from the east coast, so I was wide eyed at 4:00 am pst every day. All-in-all, great room for the price.

The Bean & Bottle
This is by far the best part of the resort, a wine and coffee bar next to the lobby. Every night there was a wine tasting at the wine bar, which included some VERY good wines. What was even better was the cheese and charcuterie bar in there as well. Every night we would get a charcuterie board with different meats and cheeses that would always pair very well with the wine tasting. We would hang out for another drink or two after the tasting ending before heading to dinner. I also purchased a few bottles of wine from there to take to dinner, which was much more economical that paying 2x for the same bottle at the restaurant. In the mornings, I would venture to the coffee bar and get an illy coffee and croissant (these were horrible – I mean horrible, especially after being to the local French bakeries and tasting their fantastic croissants).

The Shuttle
This service provided by the resort was invaluable. We used it multiple times per day, and the shuttle service was very prompt and courteous. Every morning we would head to the square for breakfast and in the evening for dinner. Loved it.

Overall
I was very happy with the property and I would definitely stay there again. The cottages seem to be the way to go, especially with the fireplaces. I was very happy with the cleanliness, service and amenities that were offered. The only negative was the croissants and the pillows. The next time I stay in Sonoma, this is where we will stay.

Room Tip: If staying in a cottage, stay further back towards the spa to minimize noise from the pool gates and...

Our family spent another fabulous night at the Marriott Renaissance Resort & Spa in Sonoma California and this trip was as fine as our last vacation here. Guest service continues to be a hallmark at this beautiful property as this time our front desk experience was wonderfully handled by Ms. Leo. As we checked in Ms. Leo talked to me like we were old friends and her recommendations for the area made the wine country visit great. Even though we don't drink we went to 2 phenomenal wineries that were great for families anyway. Ledson castle winery (super beautiful grounds and friendly folks) was ideal for having a picnic and buying gourmet items including chocolate. Castello di Amorosa in Napa is a full-blown REAL Italian castle with incredible grounds and it was a total blast. Again, thanks to Ms. Leo and the highly hospitable folks at the Lodge for making this another great stay.
