I'm a beer snob and a glutton. Maybe a gourmand.
We'd done 2 wineries and were tired after walking about 8 miles and somehow found this place on Trip Advisor. We were ready for a beer and some pub food. We were really blindsided. Both were terrific.
First, very cool california decor. Oddly, as soon as we walked in, the server from the winery we'd just left was there. Not sure what that means....but we took it as a good omen.
We sat outdoors. I HATE sitting outdoors. Bugs regard me as something to dine on when I am dining on something else. This was cool, comfortable, bug-free, large umbrellas, sandy "floor", great service.
The burger was californicated - weird stuff, like some sort of salsa/relish, bizarre cheese I can't recall, etc. etc - you know - when they are trying to make a burger something more than a burger. Generally, just give me a burger, maybe blue cheese....i'm happy.
this thing was terrific. Just absolutely terrific. I still don't know what it had on it but it was 5 star all the way. GREAT fries. And the beer list, well, it seems there is a relationshp between Hopmonk and gordon biersch; not sure if it is ownership or if they just brew 3 of the house brews. Regardless, most of the beers were domestic micros. They were kind enough to let me have a 5 beer sampler plus i tasted my fiancee's dunkelweizen (that has a bit of a provocative sound to it...).
This was also the best microbrewery taster I've ever had. One beer (the Reissdorf Kolsch) was very good. The others were out of this world - Lagunitas Lil sumpin sumpin IPA, Moonlight Death and taxes thuringian style black lager (I kid you not), Anderson valley summer solstice copper ale (which is described as a cerveza crema - is that what we swill drinking older easterners called a cream ale?), and Russian River Pliny the Elder. Spectacular. Great food and great beer, do not stop, do not pass go, do not fret; just try it.
