“5 stars from self proclaimed obnoxious beer snob”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

I'm a beer snob and a glutton. Maybe a gourmand.
We'd done 2 wineries and were tired after walking about 8 miles and somehow found this place on Trip Advisor. We were ready for a beer and some pub food. We were really blindsided. Both were terrific.
First, very cool california decor. Oddly, as soon as we walked in, the server from the winery we'd just left was there. Not sure what that means....but we took it as a good omen.
We sat outdoors. I HATE sitting outdoors. Bugs regard me as something to dine on when I am dining on something else. This was cool, comfortable, bug-free, large umbrellas, sandy "floor", great service.
The burger was californicated - weird stuff, like some sort of salsa/relish, bizarre cheese I can't recall, etc. etc - you know - when they are trying to make a burger something more than a burger. Generally, just give me a burger, maybe blue cheese....i'm happy.
this thing was terrific. Just absolutely terrific. I still don't know what it had on it but it was 5 star all the way. GREAT fries. And the beer list, well, it seems there is a relationshp between Hopmonk and gordon biersch; not sure if it is ownership or if they just brew 3 of the house brews. Regardless, most of the beers were domestic micros. They were kind enough to let me have a 5 beer sampler plus i tasted my fiancee's dunkelweizen (that has a bit of a provocative sound to it...).
This was also the best microbrewery taster I've ever had. One beer (the Reissdorf Kolsch) was very good. The others were out of this world - Lagunitas Lil sumpin sumpin IPA, Moonlight Death and taxes thuringian style black lager (I kid you not), Anderson valley summer solstice copper ale (which is described as a cerveza crema - is that what we swill drinking older easterners called a cream ale?), and Russian River Pliny the Elder. Spectacular. Great food and great beer, do not stop, do not pass go, do not fret; just try it.

“Experience the beer garden”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

On a great night, go and have a drink in the beer garden. Lovely relaxing atmosphere and overall great vibe. Lots of great beers on tab and a typical bar menu, but a bit more upscale for the food ingredients. I could have hung out in the beer garden all night.

“great after work tavern”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

Love the large and well represented selection of micro brews in a relaxed but sophisticated environment. Added plus is the full bar to boot. Really enjoy frequenting it with out of town guests. The only reason it's not a 5 is the latest trend in Sonoma service: you only get seated and served if your getting a meal while servers are standing around catching up on conversation. Do it yourself service smacks of fast food. You can have everything down pat, but without the service with a smile, you'll never be great.

“Great place for casual, outdoor dining in the Wine Country”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

Our whole family loved Hopmonk! A great find in Sonoma, right off the Sonoma Square. Enjoyable outdoor dining with a fun, easy-going atmosphere. Hopmonk is one of those places that you go to when you want a burger/fresh salad and you want to sit outside on a beautiful Wine Country night with your family, friends and a drink. Hopmonk is kid-friendly with has a roaming magician on Thursday nights. The service is a bit slow, but I've found that to be the norm all over laid-back Sonoma.

“Great beers and outdoor seating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012

This is my go to place when I want to hang out outside, bring my dog, and drink some beers. Great selection of beers on tap that is always updating as well as a huge selection of bottled beers. Food is good too
