I took my Mom to Sonoma for her 60th birthday, and we had the most wonderful stay at MacArthur Place. The rooms are quite spacious, and the beds are very comfortable. There is a lovely rain shower, and comfy robes to lounge around in while planning your wine excursions. The front desk was incredibly helpful and made several dinner reservations for us. We also used their shipping service to send our wine purchases home.

The grounds are adorable - beautiful flowers, original artwork, etc. The hotel is only about a 15-minute walk into Sonoma Plaza, where we had several dinners.

We can't WAIT to return to this hotel!

“Our wine country weekend getaway”

MacArthur Place - Sonoma's Historic Inn & Spa

MacArthur Place is lovely. The original inn began with accomodations in the Manor House. Now the property has several buildings, all maintained beautifully. The grounds are amazing, with attractive landscaping and lush gardens complete with whimsical metal sculptures and water features. We were told that they offer a tour of the grounds that will discuss the large variety of plants on the property.

We especially enjoyed the wine tasting held in the Library, that included a variety of fresh cheeses, fruits, as well as dried fruits and crackers. Each evening a different local winery would pour. During our stay we sampled from St. Jean and Imagery. It was a nice precursor to dinner.

The Saddles Restaurant is known for their beef and it didn't disappoint. We tried the grass fed filet and it was delicious. Friday evening there was also a live jazz band that entertained us. Very nice. Continental breakfast was just enough to get the day started with a variety of fresh fruits (always replenished when low), cereals, breads, smoked salmon and hard boiled eggs.

The staff was very accomodating and friendly. When I inquired, they went so far as to find out who supplied the dried fruits for their wine tasting and then brought us a take home box of all the fruits as a momento of our stay.

As another reviewer indicated the pool and fitness room are average and the fitness room is on the small side, but has everything necessary for a workout. We didn't take advantage of the spa.

Our room was located in a duplex structure (Magnolia bldg.) on the first floor. It was very clean and nicely appointed. However, I would recommend an upper level room because if you have someone staying above you like we did you hear every footstep. I felt the building could have used more soundproofing because we could hear more than we wanted to from our upstairs neighbors and were awakened by them each morning.

Overall, a nice place to stay while visiting Sonoma.

“Perfect Reflection of Sonoma”

We decided to stay here during the first leg of our honeymoon - while we explored Sonoma. The location in proximity to the Sonoma wineries is fantastic. The accomodations were rustic reminiscent with a modern atmosphere. The bed was so comfy; and the bathroom was equipped with every toiletry one might need - cotton balls, q-tips, eye makeup remover, etc. The gardens are exquisite and you can smell the fresh herbs growing in little, tucked away sections. Some not to miss things - the spa services are a must; the wine reception every night is a great way to unwind and relax; the Concierge gave us a great route to follow to discover the wineries as well as some complimentary tastings. Our package included breakfast each morning at the Hotels' restaurant, Saddles. We opted for the buffet each morning - and it was delicious, healthy, satisfying and had much variety. Service is exceptional throughout the grounds. We also had dinner at Saddles Restaurant one night - very good, although we had a few other local favorites that were closeby that we also enjoyed. We are definitely coming back - this is a great place for couples, but would also make for a great family place with the bikes, the pool, and the gigantic chess set. We had a great time here and would recommend this place to anyone staying in Sonoma - the charm is so unique!

“Beautiful place with relaxing atmosphere”

Just got back from San Fran/Napa/Sonoma. After staying at four different hotels, I'd have to say that MacArthur Place was the highlight of the trip. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and the staff was kind enough to send a bottle of champagne and some chocolates to our room. Our teenage daughter was with us on the trip and had a great time at the spa and pool. The grounds are absolutely spectacular. Wonderful gardens with aromatic herbs accented by unique sculptures and serene sitting areas. It is located on a busy street with a very unattractive used car lot on the opposite corner, but once you arrive at the Inn, you forget where you are. We stayed in a spa suite (63) which was beautiful and perfectly appointed.Close to the street, but we didn't hear any noise. It is walking distance to the town square, but the walk isn't the most scenic. My daughter remarked that the MacArthur atmosphere was so soothing and relaxing, it reminded her of those fancy sanitariums you see in movies. If so, commit me!
