“Lovely hotel, helpful friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

I stayed here as part of a biking tour group. Nice, spacious room, lovely grounds, friendly staff. Nightly wine and cheese hour for guests. Has an outdoor pool and a fitness room. They put chocolates on my pillow each evening.

This was our third time staying at MacArthur Place and everything about it was perfect. Yes it is a little pricey but worth the splurge. The location is great as you can walk to downtown Sonoma if you wish but also convenient to both Sonoma wineries as well as Napas. The grounds are beautiful and very peaceful. Included in the price is a complimentary breakfast buffet and wine and cheese hour every day. We enjoy dining at Saddles which is the restaurant at the Inn and the prime rib is excellent. The rooms are beautiful and spacious but our favorite is the Spa. The massages are to die for and the best we have ever had anywhere. I would highly recommend MacArthur Place to anyone.

My husband and I had our wedding there and we could not have been more pleased. Excellent service from start to finish. We were a bit non-traditional and more laid back than most, and they rolled with it and met every expectation (fun, laid back, classy, etc.). Our guests cannot stop talking about how great the food was (get the short ribs!) and though we were super loud and rowdy, they never made us feel bad or like we were imposing. Highly recommend it for an event or wedding!

My daughter and. I visited wine country and we chose this boutique hotel because of the excellent reviews. We were not disappointed. Great location to tour wineries, dining and shopping. The Saddles restaurant for breakfast and dinner was outstanding.

We used the spa also and had a wonderful treatment. Would highly recommend this accommodation, dining and spa.

From the second you arrive, you just know this place feels right. We arrived early but were fortunate that our room was ready - great news for two travel weary Brits.

We had one of the superior guest rooms (Magnolia), on the upper floor. The room was a very good size, with a very nice deep carpet. The kingside bed was very comfortable, and there was also a nice leather chaise-Longue. The bathroom was also nice, with soaps, etc., from the hotel spa. A wonderful shower, with good water pressure. Spotlessly clean. Evening turndown was nice with a choccy on the pillow, and a little sampler from the spa (moisturiser or body lotion).

The free wifi was a little slow on occasion but this did not cause a problem.

The grounds were very well kept, with some marvellous sculptures and water features. We even had humming birds flitting around!

We only attended the wine and cheese drinks once, but it was nice and convivial, a chance to chat to other guests and have a look at the library and info on various nearby wineries that offered tastings.

We ate at Saddles Restaurant the first evening, and the food was superb. Definitely worth a visit, even if you are not staying at the hotel. Breakfast is served in the restaurant and there is a complimentary continental breakfast for all guests. This included the usual cereals, pastries, fresh fruit, etc., but the blueberry muffins just melted in the mouth. There were other payable items on the menu if you wanted something bigger, however we found that the continental was more than adequate.

All the hotel staff we encountered were friendly and efficient. A particular mention goes to Concierge Nancy, who gave great advice on places to visit and the best wineries to go to.

It is situated in the corner of a main road but I don't personally think this causes any problems with noise. I guess it just depends how noise sensitive you are.

Overall an excellent hotel that I would have no hesitation in recommending or visiting again.

I never write anything ! Ever ! But if anyone is traveling to wine country, you must stay at MacArthur Place. A friend who lives in Sonoma recommended it and boy it was more than we could ever have expected. We were there 9-9-13 thru 9-12-13 The cottage style rooms are immaculate and plenty big. It all looks and feels brand new or re-done. Sitting area, private toilet, stereo, tv, wet-bar, very comfortable bedding, safe and my wifes biggest concern: no rugs !!! The grounds are amazing and they even have a pool. (It gets hot sometimes). They have a restaurant and we had continental breakfast included. Also al la-cart. Wine tasting in the afternoon (if you can keep going). Now for staff: all of them were terrific but I have to mention Melissa. She is the everything woman: Check-in, concierge, reservations, tour knowledge, giving, caring and what a sweetheart. She makes you relax while taking on all the responsibility of ensuring you're enjoying wine country. She went above and beyond and we are very thankful. I will come back and stay here again. And boy do I hope it's sooner than later. GO STAY HERE !!!! You WILL love it....Thanks Paul D. SI, NY

Room Tip: We stayed first floor cabana room. There are some with a private tub in a small private yard.

We spent four nights here and enjoyed our stay. While it isn't the Ritz Carlton it I pretty decent. All of the rooms are in one or two story "bungalows" and require a walk to the restaurant. The two story bungalows do not have an elevator which was ok for us, but not sure about a lot of people going up and down what are pretty steep stairs. The morning we left my wife tripped on a raised portion of the sidewalk and banged her hand and knee up pretty good. The staff was great in helping to patch her up which I appreciated greatly. They gave us a first aid kit to take with us which I also appreciated. I will say the Saddles restaurant is not worthy of the descriptive word of "prime" as the meat they serve is not prime, but mot likely choice at best. Rooms are more than adequate. We had a junior suite, #61. The small pieces of soap they supply in the bathrooms are way too small. For the price they charge a larger soap bar would be much better. The hotel appears to be catering to business groups which is not a bad thing.

Room Tip: Request a ground floor room if possible.

Green Features: The hotel is definitely inclined to be green. We must have had five different waste receptacles in our room.
