“Wonderful!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

MacArthur place is clean, beautiful and located in the perfect area!! I loved the grounds and the nightly wine and cheese. The beds are very comfortable and the nightly turn down service came with chocolates, a sample of the spa's body butter and the next day's weather! The best thing about the place is the staff. They are wanting to make your stay more comfortable and willing to do anything to make that happen. Wonderful place and wonderful people!

This place was fantastic - we did two night and were very impressed by the staff, the beautiful well manicured grounds, perfect location, and yummy continental breakfast. Very clean.

They have an afternoon wine hour and a HUGE movie selection to pick from. They also helped us with dinner reservations (harvest moon) which we were quite pleased with.

Only thing was the pillows - all very soft - make sure to request firm pillows if you like firmer pillows. They were dropped off within ten min of the request.

We also had a causal dinner at saddles one night and found it to be extremely satisfying at a very affordable price!

We would stay here again in a skinny minute!

I chose this hotel because a friend of a friend of a friend mentioned the name. We took advantage of a three day stay Internet special and boy were we happy. This is a beautiful, immaculately kept property with unbeatable service. They offer a delicious complimentary continental breakfast as well as wine and cheese each evening. We were two minutes from the town of Sonoma. The concierge, Nancy, was so helpful. We will not stay anywhere else on future visits to the area.

This was our second stay at MacArthur Place. The staff is wonderful, friendly, accommodating. The accommodations are clean, comfortable and spacious with beautiful grounds to match.
Continental breakfast is included with cereal, fruit, yogurts, toast, juice and of course COFFEE. Complimentary wine and cheese everyday as well at 5 pm. The concierge is superb. Loved the spa as well. Free wifi, free parking
Thinking of staying in Sonoma? - This is the place.

Room Tip: If you can afford the price, go for the Azalea Suite.

MacArthur Place started life as a 19th century estate in the middle of a 300 acre vineyard and working ranch, but it has since been transformed into country-chic accommodations consisting of the historic main house and a handful of Victorian-style cottages, surrounded by spectacular flower and herb gardens, original flagstone paths, abundant fruit trees, whimsical sculptures (including a life-size chess set and chair swings made from repurposed ski lifts) and original flagstone paths leading to an inviting outdoor swimming pool and whirlpool.

Each of the 64 rooms have their own original design, but one thing they all do seem to have in common is: sumptuous feather beds, designer linens, cozy fireplace, comfy seating areas, eclectic paintings by local artists, a mini bar with refrigerator, premium coffee maker and a thoughtfully laid out bathroom with European walk-in showers and a fab assortment of their special grape seed bath amenities.

I appreciated the many thoughtful ( and complimentary touches) such as the continental buffet breakfast at Saddles Steakhouse, (located in the estate's atmospheric barn with cowboy boots, saddles and painted horses adorning the walls) a well-stocked library with a wide choice of DVD’s for cocooners, a nightly wine and cheese reception, fitness center with steam room, free Wi-Fi and parking.

Room Tip: Ask to see ( or look online) at a few different rooms because each one is uniquely decorated so, lik...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

We spent 3 nights at MacArthur Place in a King Room on the second floor. The grounds are lovely and each walkway is filled with beautiful flowers and sculptures.

The service from the time we booked and throughout our stay was wonderful. Very helpful without ever being intrusive.

We were fortunate enough to take advantage of an off season promo and booked our room at a great rate. That really helped to make this a great experience. While we really enjoyed our stay, I dont know if I would pay full price for the room we had. It was nice but just a standard size room. The bathroom was a nice size and the room had a deep closet that easily holds luggage. With our discounted price I would definitely say it was a good value but at full price I would want a larger room or suite.

It is a little walk (about 4 to 5 blocks) to Sonoma Plaza but you pass some wonderful shops along the way. We never had any trouble finding a parking spot but because of the time of year the lodge definitely wasn't crowded.

We stopped by the wine tasting and again the staff was great and it was a pleasant, relaxing experience.

Overall a nice place for couples and if you can visit during the off season you may be able to take advantage of a great promotional price.
