“A little short on personality”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014

Room was clean but on the third floor - no elevator. No amenities to speak of. Arrived in the evening after a long day of travel. Lukewarm welcome. Front desk staff during our stay was excellent or half asleep -varied from shift to shift. I expected better. Town is lovely (Except Tuesday evenings after market day. The local bars and roaring pickup trucks were out first impression of the town-the rest of the week was fine. Did not stay on weekend). No comfortable seating in room or lobby.

We found the hotel to be clean, comfortable, with friendly staff. The location is perfect! There is a good pastry selection for breakfast with a large variety of teas to choose from. I would suggest requesting a room on the 3rd floor due to creaking boards over head.

A group of us stayed here for a weekend in March.
Pros: The location is great, right on the square. The rooms are small-ish but super clean and the price was reasonable. It's a historic hotel within walking distance to coffee and some great restaurants. (Girl and the Fig was sold out so we dined at the Harvest Moon Cafe which served fantastic food.) Coffee and OJ and some pastries are offered in the morning and wine in the afternoon. Rooms have air conditioning. We were on the front of the hotel and it was not noisy even with our window open.
Cons: I'm giving this hotel a decent review but actually our queen bed was wonky. It sagged in the middle which meant we had problems sleeping. Also, some of our friends complained about noise from other rooms. Check in was super slow due to their reservation system (so said the woman who checked us in.)

I would probably stay here again if I could give the bed a comfort test.
There is no room service and I'm giving a neutral rating for the restaurant since I don't consider Girl and the Fig part of the hotel, despite being connected.

We had booked a regular room with 2 beds but on the morning of our arrival I got a call from the hotel staff advising us that the housekeeper called in sick and that they would not be able to get our room cleaned in time, so would we mind taking a suite with 1 queen bed and a sofa bed in the living area? It was a lovely room and my daughter said the sofa bed was nice and comfortable. I had stayed at this hotel about 14 years earlier and I'm glad we went back. The building is old with wonderful creaky floors and stairs. We were on the 3rd floor and there is no elevator, but we managed. The bathroom was huge but could use a bit more counter/storage space for toiletries. Great location at the corner of the town square, so easy walking distance to lots of restaurants and tasting rooms. They have a free local wine happy hour and a simple but nice continental breakfast in the lobby. Parking is on the street and a bit hard to fine at times.

This is one of the most budget-friendly hotels in Sonoma County. I did not have my expectations high for this very reason but I was very pleasantly surprised. This is not a new, modern, fancy, chain hotel. It is a 19th century, charming and homey, clean and well located "inn". For the price, it cannot be beat. If you are looking for a fancy spa resort, then you can pay 3x the price at Fairmont Sonoma or the like. Sonomal Hotel is located right on the corner of Sonoma Plaza and is directly attached to The Girl and the Fig restaurant. It is a historic building and parking is on the street. This can be a bit of a hassle but just be prepared to walk a bit with your luggage if you arrive during a busy time/day. Reception was friendly and kind and our room on the 2nd floor was just right. Again, nothing new and modern but it was clean, relatively spacious (considering the age of the building) and had cable, toiletries, extra blankets and hair dryers. There was a community fridge down the hall which was nice considering all the wine and chees we had to keep cool during our stay! From 5-6pm, complimentary red and white wine is offered for "wine hour" in the lobby and continental breakfast (pastries, coffee and juice) is served 8-9:30am. We stayed on a Sunday night and there was no street noise to speak of. I had read about this in previous reviews and was a little nervous. We got a good night's sleep in comfortable beds and were completely happy with our budget-friendly choice.

Our room was cozy and perfect. Great value!!! Better deal than any of the hotels in Sonoma and way cooler!! Clean rooms, and a tasty wine service in the early evening was enjoyable. We loved the coffee and pastries too! It had a historic feeling. I felt like Wyatt Earp may come knockin' on my door.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

I recently stayed at the Sonoma Hotel for a wedding in Sonoma. The location was great, right next to the Sonoma square and surrounded by good restaurants, bars, wineries within walking distance. The rooms were nice but I expected much more based on the price. The shower water never got hot and shower pressure was so long that you needed to take half hour long showers. In addition, the walls were paper thin. You could hear conversations in the next room and being right on a busy street with thin windows, we didn't get much sleep. There was no AC and the rooms got extremely hot at night, also making sleep difficult.
