Svengaard's Danish Lodge is located across from the Mission,appropriately on Mission St. It is in the America's
Best Value Inn chain. Definately walking distance to anything in the downtown area. Less than 2 miles from large supermarkets. The room was for 3 of us. A king bed and in a separate room with door, a twin bed. This room also housed a sink, mini-refrigerator, coffee pot and hair dryer plus desk, chair and lamp. Very nice for the third wheel of your group, a child, an older person, etc. Rate was $108.00 with a AAA discount of 15% eventhough this was high season. Complimentary continental breakfast of juice, coffee, bagels, sweet rolls, oatmeal and fruit. Pool and jacuzzi. In talking with another guest who's room was enormous with one king and the small kitchenette, it was priced the same as ours. Prices in other seasons only are reduced by $20-25 according to the desk clerk. This is a clean, well run hotel. We would return. In closing we looked at the suites which rent for $156.00 (again August) and they are huge. Twice the size of Embassy Suites for about the same price.

We stayed one night at Svendsgaards Lodge on 12 August 2007 as we traveled down the coast from San Francisco to San Diego. I booked the room through the hotels web site and didn't have any problems. We stayed on the third floor in a room with a fireplace since other reviewers indicated that these rooms were larger than the others. Overall the room was clean and everything worked fine. Check-in was no problem and the staff was happy to suggest some nearby resturants for dinner. We felt that the hotel had a rundown feel to it, like it's overdue for an upgrade. Our room lacked any sort of charm and while there wasn't anything wrong with the room, my family had started grumbling about finding another place to stay that night as soon as we walked in (we didn't switch hotels). The pool was very cold and the hot tub wasn't heated the night were were there. The continental breakfast was what you would expect and was a nice touch-- danish, bagels, juice and coffee. The hotel is in a nice location, an easy walk to shopping and a number of resturants. Overall, our stay was ok, but for price ($127) we'll probably go for a newer hotel next time. The bottom line -- An ok place to stay, just prepare to be underwhelmed when you open the door to your room.

We arrived in the afternoon and the lady at check-in was very helpful. She gave us are keys and recommended a few activities in town. The room was clean and pretty spacious for two, no complaints there. However, when we went to the front desk to return the keys and check out, the two ladies at the desk gave us bad vibes. They didn't really say much, had me sign the credit card slip without a word. I tried to be friendly by initiating some conversation and asked what wineries they could recommend. Answers were very short and they didn't even recommend a single place!. I got the feeling that are stay there was not welcomed. P.S. My girlfriend and I went to a small wine tasting room called Tastes of the Valley in Solvang. Had a good time enjoying their wine, the $15 wine tasting and the $25(grand cru) tasting, and bought a wine to take back home. The guy serving us told us that there $28 bottle was actually $45 because it was the "more expensive" version. We believed him and when we got back home to los angeles, the bottle had a sticker stating $28. WOW, will never go back and will not recommend this place to anyone. Very sneaky and just plain bad business. The attitude at check out and the sneaky switch-a-roo at TASTES OF THE VALLEY, we will be very hesitant to go back to Solvang anytime soon.

I traveled to Solvang with my baby, husband, sister, and mother. We stayed at Svendsgaard's Danish Lodge and it was by far the best stay we had our entire CA vacation! I am already hoping to plan a trip to CA where we will stay at this hotel the entire time. I took the advice of TripAdvisor and booked the larger room with a fireplace. We had a room with a fireplace and two beds with a balcony. The price was an unbelievable $89.00. The location of this hotel is perfect for shopping and playing in Solvang. We were at the corner of both major shopping streets. It is just steps away from all the fun stores, restaurants, and bakeries. Our room (on the second floor) had a small room at the entry with a dining table, fridge, sink, and microwave. To the left of this room was another room almost like a walk in closet. It included a counter with a stool, mirror, and bathroom sink and can be used as a changing / makeup area. The closet essentials are in this space and it was perfect as a little bedroom to put my baby's pack n play so she could go to bed earlier. Off of this space was the bathroom with a third sink, shower/tub, and toilet. The main room iteself had two large beds, end table, fireplace, two reclining chairs, and tv on a dresser. The glass sliding door opened on a large balcony that overlooked the pool and hot tub. Our room was quiet, exceptionally clean, and near the elevator. We enjoyed going out to eat, buying wine to enjoy in the room that evening, and having tons of room to unpack our many suitcases. The room was the largest I have had in a long time and felt like a suite. The decor is dated, but it has a charming quality. This is obviously a cared for establishment. I didn't see any of the other rooms, but one cleaning person asked if we liked our room and if we were in a "large one". At breakfast they serve danishes, coffee, and juice which you can eat outside or in the lobby. I will return to this hotel and definitely pay the additional $10 or so for a larger room. I loved overlooking the pool. It had such a resort feel in such a beautiful town and there was plenty of free parking. PS My hubby left his treasured hoody in the room. I called and they shipped it home for us. They even asked if we enjoyed our stay with them.
