“Thankful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2014

I'm very thankful, I forgot some personal things and on my request, they kindly shipped it to me. This is not a fancy hotel, but you can have a very clean room, excellent location, walking distance to the entire to town. I definitely recommend this place.

Not 5 star or anything, but very cute, clean, comfy hotel in the heart of Solvang.
Not cheap at $152/night (but not expensive for holidays).
Overall we were very satisfied. We would recommend both Solvang and the King Frederick Inn to anyone visiting central California & wine country :-)

King Frederick inn is typical motel. Old, junky beds, the tiniest soap imaginable, a sign on the gate to the hot tub warning against people with diarrhea. The staff here not helpful about activities in the area nor knowledgeable. Nothing special here.

Room Tip: Watch out, there are rooms right on the highway

The building is nothing special. a cheap old motel style with outside room doors opening to a pool, but the room was very clean, spacious and nicely furnished.
The best feature,... location. Right in the middle of the main street so walking distance to the entire town. How great it was to wobble a little out of our final wine bar at midnight, and less than 100 footsteps later we were opening the door to our room.

Room Tip: We noticed some loud guests and asked to be located away from them. the front desk accommodated us

The place is on the dated side... was clean... breakfast was average. Breakfast service was also average. It was fine for a single night on the road. It seemed to be priced a little high for what you got.

The hotel is build in the typical "fake-danish" style of the town (which is good), and is located right in the middle of the interesting area; just outside the hotel you find all the shops, restaurants and bakeries.

Clean room, nice staff, no noise. Breakfast was good, with lots of danish pastries to grab. But not a lot of tables to sit. I would guess that during peak season the must be a lot of problems to sit during breakfast. It has a nice pool area, better than usual.

Stayed at the King Frederik Inn for a couple of days in late November 2013. Rate was just over a hundred dollars per night. Although it's called an "Inn"... it's more like a motel in appearance and amenities. Pros are that it is in a great location, wifi worked great, and good selection of television channels. Cons are that the motel is quite aging, some people go on about such an "oustanding value"... I found that the rates were quite expensive for what you get. There is a limited breakfast (all you get is coffee, danish, muffin, juice). I didn't have a fridge or microwave in the room. There is some street noise as it's located right on the main drag in Solvang and some rooms are quite close to the road. Small rooms. Maybe it's because Solvang is a tourist town and things are more expensive anyway. I just think a typical motel of this level should be around 50 to 60 dollars per night, not over a hundred. Beds comfortable and adqeuate pillows and hot water. Staff that I dealt with were all friendly and helpful, and if you forget anything they have razors, shaving cream, etc if you ask which is nice. I also found parking to be adqeuate even though they were sold out on the nights I stayed. Lots of pros and cons.... so I would give this motel an average rating... adequaate for solo or business travel perhaps but I would not recommend for couples if you want to impress anyone, or families requiring any amount of space.

Room Tip: If possible, ask for a room away from the main road, it should be quieter. Also a ground floor leve...
