I stayed at the Petersen Village Inn on business. Things got off to a bad start when the gentleman taking my bags to my room couldn't answer a simple question: "What is the situation with Internet access?" "I dunno." Gee, thanks for the 1-Star answer.

As it turns out, the Inn has free wireless broadband, which is a huge plus when you're there on business. You'd think the Inn would let their employees know about it. Instead, I had to open my laptop to find out.

Another complaint is that they pipe loud classical music into the hallways--so loud that you can hear it in your room until fairly late at night. Thank you, but I prefer to choose when to hear music, and what to listen to in my room.

The bed was very nice. The room was large, but the bathroom was small. There is no fan in the toilet area, which I consider to be unacceptable. Also, if you happen to be of the gender that stands when you relieve yourself, in the room I was staying in, this means you're looking out onto a hallway and stairway. If the timing had been right, I could wave to people as I do my business. The lace curtains were inadequate for privacy, given the location of the window.

At approximately $300 a night, I expect much better attention to detail.

“Amenities To Die For”

My husband and I had visited Solvang many times before and found it to be a quaint little Danish Community. After staying at a few so, so places, we felt compelled to splurge a little at the very elegant Petersen Village. We found this place to be almost perfect. The continental breakfast was more than continental. When I think of continental I think of a danish and one beverage. The breakfast was tasty and filling. Each morning included a variety of fresh pasteries, fruits, juices, cereals, and hard boiled eggs. We ate to our hearts content. The rooms were nice. The bed was a little hard, but the linens and pillows were plushy. We ordered the complimentary evening tea and hot chocolate to enjoy on our small garden patio. But the best part of all was the dinner. The Petersen Inn has its own restaurant solely for its guests. The dinners were include and were comparable to an upscale restaurant. My husband and I both ordered succulent filet mignon dinners. After eating plenty of sourdough breads, and a walnuty salad, we almost couldn't eat our dinners. We both managed that and were even more pleasantly surprised with desserts brought in from a wonderful local bakery. All in all a wonderful stay and looking forward to our next stay!

“Lovely hotel but rude staff.”

My wife and I stayed in the Tower Suite on Memorial Day weekend, and we loved the suite itself. The only problem was that the front desk staff was actually quite rude to us. First, we were very coldly greeted upon checking in. Then, when we arrived in the suite we found that the bottle of champagne we'd arranged to have waiting for us (for $37!) wasn't there.

When we reported this to the front desk, the young lady said, "Oh, well, I guess I'll try to see what I can do about it." An hour later, a warm bottle of champagne was delivered to the room. Talk about a downer. The same young woman was equally rude at check-out. For over $400 a night, you expect a least a little politeness.

Next time we'll likely stay elsewhere.

My wife and I stayed at the Petersen Village Friday, March 19th, 2005. We arrived at 1pm, and our room was not ready until 3pm. That was fine, as the entire town of Solvang takes about 2 hours to walk through. Our room was clean. Our dinner was included in the price, and it was fine. Although the town seemed to quiet down around 9pm, the party 2 rooms over went on till about 230am. They had a balcony room, and spent a great deal of time out on it laughing and talking loudly. I callled the front desk around midnight, then again around 2am, and neither call seemed to help. The next morning, upon check out, I explained the entire situation to the front desk, and although the clerk seemed interested, she offered no reduction to my $304 bill. I realize that the party wasnt their fault, however, they certainly could have done something about it after I complained.

“Great place to stay”

My wife and I have found Solvang a romantic place to get away and we always stay at Petersen Village Inn. We love it there. We have our favorite room and usually book far enough ahead to secure the one we like. The European style elegance of Petersen Villiage Inn is not what one would expect in a small Southern California town. The food is super. There is a continental breakfast and gourmet dinner both very relaxing and very tasty. PVI is located in the center of Solvang making it a good place to stay because the walk to and from the theater or anywhere else in town is not far. They are not awarded four diamonds for nothing. We highly recommend Petersen Villiage Inn.
