I spend an amazing evening with my girlfriend at the Blanca yesterday. Our reservation was for 6:45, and we were promptly seated in an almost empty dining room. Half an hour later, the place was full.
Our waiter was with us immediately, answered all questions about the menu and gave very knowledgeable wine suggestions. Bread and butter service was just ok, as was the complimentary cauliflower soup sampler. Both bread and soup were boring at best.
We got ourselves a pair of excellent blueberry mojitos. Our appetizers were a plate of magnificent steak carpaccio with extra dry gruyere cheese and croutons, and a slab of mouthwatering seared foie gras on a thin toast with strawberry mousse. Both appetizers were to die for, and they were served very fast.
We ordered a half bottle of nice and simple Fort Ross pinotage to go with our entrees, a tender braised short rib in jus and a grilled halibut with broccoli and cheddar risotto. Both entrees were absolutely astonishing, cooked to perfection and plated beautifully. Also, quite surprisingly for such establishment, portions were quite generous.
For dessert, we had samplers of lemon cheese cake, butterscotch pot de creme, toffee pudding and chocolate cake. All desserts were creative and executed perfectly.
Overall, we were taken excellent care of, the wait staff were very professional and knowledgeable and the food was perfect. The bill for two came to $200, money well spent!! We shall eat at Blanca again.
