“Another Solana Beach Old School Mexi Place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

Like Fidel´s next door, Tony´s is a Solana Beach Establishment, having been around forever. The food is decent, but not true mexican, more like SoCal Mexi like almost all Mexican Food north of the border. No serious moles, chilaquiles, or any other true mexican stuff here. Rather, the standards like Tacos, Enchiladas, Tamales. Good for families, always busy.

“Mexican Food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

This was a surpize to us as we expected a spectacular meal and time. All 3 of us were very dissappointed with the service and meal. Not hot, not fresh and just missed our target for an excellent evening. Very crowded tables and extremely noisy.

“Surprisingly average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

Average in every way, except that live music was quite nice. Does not compare to Mexican restaurants in L.A.

“The best mexican food north of the border!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

This restaurant has thrived for decades, and for good reason! While we usually try to avoid driving the I-5 during the summer, we were just in the mood for mexican, so we made the trek north to Tony's. Every time we leave we are happy we chose Tony's. We arrived around 5:30 on Saturday and got right in, but there was an hour wait when we were leaving, so it's prudent to time your visit, although the bar is a good place to wait with very good margaritas, on the strong side, but tasty. We started out with the nachos, which are excellent. Chips with cheese, chorizo, guacamole and sour cream....so good! I ordered the turkey flautas, which are excellent, served with rice, beans and their famous cabbage salad. Just delicious. My husband had a combo of chile rellano, cheese enchilada, rice, beans and cabbage salad, again so tasty! So much food though that we could have easily split that one. I don't remember what our friends ordered, however, they said several times on the way home how much they enjoyed their meal, and are making plans to go back again. The salsa is flavorful, with just the right amount of spice. The service is friendly and efficient, and the quality of the food is always high. Many people we know, as well as us, have been going here for years, and they never disappoint. We always know that if we decide to drive the distance to Solana Beach for Tony's, we'll be glad we did.

“A Decent Mexican Choice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

The atmosphere is very old-school traditional. Our server and host were both great. Food is average Mexican, some dishes better than others - try the tortilla soup, tacos and enchiladas. The prices were a little high for the quality. The margaritas were so-so, but cheap and strong! The patio was beautiful and we would have loved to spend the evening out there, but it was overcast the day we went.
