My husband and I are seasoned travellers, used to a variety of conditions. But our experience at the Del Mar Beach Club was so unexpectedly bad, that we are still reeling.
First, be aware that this is a condo complex, with high owner occupancy. If someone rented you a room, condo, or townhome in this complex for less than a 2-week period, that owner was in violation of local ordinance, and YOU will hear about it from PO'd owner-neighbors.
Our unit was next to a retired couple, and they banged on our door about twenty times during the course of a weekend to tell us that we were in violation of this or that CC&R (no towels on balcony, etc.) - as though we were long-term renters in their community.
We weren't alone in our experience...we talked to several fellow vacationers who also took some grief from owner occupants.
I fully appreciate the owners concerns, and would probably feel the same if I were in their position. But if we knew this before we decided to vacation here, we would definitely have chosen something else.
Other than that, the facility was a little crumbly, and our condo smelled moldy, as did two other units we visited. All in all, this is no jewel, although the location is nice.
Also, if you are looking for beachfront but you can't do stairs, look somewhere else. Beach access is via a steep staircase.

The reviewer's statement that the CC&Rs prohibit stays shorter than two weeks is not accurate. Perhaps it was accurate in 2003, but that has not been the case since at least 2005.

Rentals of one week are far more prevalent than any other kind, and are fully allowed under the CC&Rs.
