Tucked away up a side street, almost on the southern edge of the Design District, Lockwood is a welcome addition and is well worth seeking out.
The cafe is quite small with a number of tables inside and 2 or 3 tables and umbrellas outside. There is free parking immediately outside.
I had the Cedros sandwich and it was absolutely delicious - bursting with turkey and bacon between warm, lightly toasted bread. It came with a small side of beans (or maybe sugar snap peas!) mixed with hummus in a small ramekin dish.
At $7.95, it was a little pricey but for enjoyment value, it was worth absolutely every penny.
The staff are delightful and deliver boxed organic lunches locally using a 3 wheeled delivery cycle, which is very quaint.
My only dislike was the gluten-free pastry which was rather dry. Maybe I am just not used to gluten-free foods!
It seemed as if the cafe was very popular with the local office workers and was constantly busy.
It opens at 6am each day and the various breakfast egg souffles with fruit and potatoes for $7.25 look very tempting.
My girlfriends and I will certainly be going back there again.
