The cabin was nice (no tub though) but we got the feeling we were not so welcome. Perhaps this was because they were gearing up for the snow season, but still we felt like we were somehow intruding on the owners/caretakers.

I agree with the other travelers who reviewed Shinneyboo. The cabins and owners are great. The setting is spectacular. Only one problem: the highway noise. I didn't expect to be able to hear the traffic from I-80. It wasn't a deal-breaker but you should be aware that this isn't a remote camping experience.
This is the second year in a row that we've been Shinneyboo'd, and I have to admit some reluctance in posting a review since I'd love to keep this our little secret!
I echo the compliments from the other reviewers -- the owners are very friendly (but not intrusive), the breakfast baskets are wonderful, and the grounds boast some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen.
Although there was not much snow this year (Feb 4-7), there was enough on the ground for our young children to have some wonderful sledding, snowman-making experiences onsite (they even have many different types of sleds you can borrow if you haven't brought your own) When it snowed on the last day we were there, we had lots of fun hiking the grounds and sharing the snowfall with our boys. It is also quite conveniently located near Soda Springs, Boreal, and many other resorts, should you want to go tubing or skiing.
The cabins are Walden-pond style -- small, yet quite cozy and with a very nice jetted tub and all the amenities others have mentioned. No phone, no TV -- heaven!
My family and I stayed in cabin #7 the 3rd thru 5th of January 2007 and we had a blast. We are not really into winter sports and were just looking for a place where we could take our three year old son to play in the snow. I got to tell you I was so happy when we arrived at Shinneyboo, because I knew I had made a great choice. There was plenty of snow on the ground to play and go sledding in and we were expecting snow showers all day the next day. The cabin was small but very cozy. It is more of a studio with an upstairs loft. My son loved the loft. (The owners will provide a baby safety gate upon request.) There was a twin and a double bed up stairs in the loft and a queen bed downstairs. There was a microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, jetted tub, and gas fireplace in the cabin and a gas barbecue out on the back patio. (No need for propane, the barbecue runs off the cabins gas line.) There was also a campfire ring a few steps from our back patio. Every morning by turning on our front porch light signaled the owners to bring us our complimentary breakfast in a basket, which was filled with a variety of home baked goodies. The owners were very nice and really respected our privacy. The only time we saw them was when they brought us our breakfast basket. However, they live on site so when we needed something we just knocked on their door. We were also free to roam the 160 acres of beautiful land that the resort sits on. We would walk all over searching for great sledding hills and just taking in the scenery. We will be making this an annual getaway.

If you are looking for some of the best camping around you must check out Shinneyboo Creek Cabin Resort. OK, so the name doesn't mention much about camping. Actually they do have very nice cabins nestled at the base of Donner's Pass though we didn't stay in one.
Down a rough dirt road on the Shinneyboo property tucked away in the high valley there are several isolated Tent Cabins. And there to greet you when you arrive at your site is the camp architect and builder Will Hayward. The tent cabins are new, clean, and furnished with all the things you wish you could bring from home on a camping trip. Hot water showers built right into a giant boulder and flush toilets seemingly in the middle of nowhere! There is even freshly gathered firewood neatly stack at your site ready to burn and a big Igloo cooler brimming with fresh drinking water. That's probably why Michael & Chris (the owners) call it "Pamping".
The Tent sites are situated right on the Yuba River which is home to a couple of mischievous otters. Otters that if you are lucky you will find playing in the beautiful stretch of river coursing through the campgrounds.
There is nothing I can say that would capture the unique, unspoiled, greatness that is Shinneyboo Creek. So... Please check out their site and consider them for your next Pamping excursion.
