“Wonderful Treat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2007

The Always Inn Tahoe was a great find - I'm hesitant to counteract the negative reviews since we'd like to keep it to ourselves, but it was such a nice B&B that they deserve better publicity.

First, the location is excellent, it is within easy walking distance from the Royal Gorge Van Norden cross-country trailhead & the Soda Springs downhill ski place! It is also much closer to Sugar Bowl and other Soda Springs ski resorts than driving over the pass to Truckee.

The B&B house was cozy and welcoming after skiing with a warm fireplace, hot drinks, cookies, & chocolates. Our room (the alpine) was very clean & quite comfortable with a nice private bathroom - a pretty good deal for sat night in Tahoe at $150! The food was outstanding. We had dinner there as well as breakfast, and both were among the best I've ever had at a B&B. She even wrapped up and froze leftovers for us to take home including her delicious soups & homemade pecan pie.

Things to be aware of: the B&B is close to a train crossing. It never woke me, but my husband said he heard trains go by twice overnight. The other rooms would be quieter. Also it is Tahoe and there can be a lot of snow. They did a good job of snow blowing and plowing while we were there but you are not going to have a snow-free experience like you might be able to get at a major hotel. And - they have a friendly dog, it is a pet-friendly inn after all =).

We can't wait to go back!

I agree with the first review. You can barely make out the driveway and the front entrance. The "inn" is hidden behind layers of snow which no one seems to shovel, ever. My friend walked into a living room with a family watching a movie, and no one seemed to notice him. He asked where he should check in, and a lady on a couch said, "right here." They were very unprofessional, but seemed nice. The room was nice and clean, but was very small and definitly not worth $150 a night. It also doesn't have that "inn," or "bed & breakfast" enviroment. It almost felt renting a room in a random stranger's house. Save your money and go somewhere else, this place is not worth it!

We spent one night at Always Inn Tahoe, and we would not recommend it to anybody. The snow was up to the roof, covering all low-level windows. Sierra Room turned out to be a converted basement without the carpet(!), just concrete floor covered with rug. "Fireplace" is actually a tiny gas stove in the corner. If we didn't make a 3 hour trip with small children, we would have turn around as soon as we've seen all of this. Inn keepers pretended no problems existed. There were two large dogs in the house, actually, in the sitting room. Breakfast was ok, if not for the dog hair in my eggs. Folks, skip this one if you can!
