This Inn had some nice qualities still. The views from here were just breath-taking. The location is great and close to all surrounding mountain communities. This inn featured in-house dining and a nice common living room for guests as well. They also had many outdoor activities to chose from, movies and games to borrow - snacks and drinks available too. Check in was easy, and the staff was friendly at the beginning. People working the restaurant seemed nice, and the food smelled great. Our room was very spacious, featured beautiful views and was cozy. As it was our anniversary and we had specific dining plans already worked out - had we not, I'm sure the dining here would have been nice. This Inn seemed very children friendly too, and would probably be easy to work with - if you were traveling with children.

On the downside ~ although it wasn't a problem for us, the Inn wasn't as well-kept up as might be expected for the price we paid (i.e. could have used newer carpet, wallpaper, rugs, towels, etc..). The bed ended up being so uncomfortable that I was more comfortable on the floor for half the night. The bathroom's shower would go cold automatically, as though someone else was using hot water for laundry/dishes, etc... Our room looked very clean, but had a constant bad smell (like cigarette smoke/musty/old food). Upon check out, the staff was a bit rude to my husband - it seemed to do with our choice not to dine there. We're quiet and keep to ourselves, but maybe the staff expected us to provide them our itinerary/dining choices/time schedule, this may be common practice in smaller places.... We did not chose to complain to the staff regarding these things, because we thought it wouldn't be worth our time/hassle and there was nothing that could have been done to rectify our not-so-positive experiences there.

All in all, I think it would you can find a better place in Lake Arrowhead for the same price as you'd pay here. This Inn is probably very suitable for families or for a more casual traveler. We just found that it didn't really suit our needs for a special event, such as an Anniversary.

“Genial and Accommodating Host”

Storybook Inn

I stopped off at the Storybook Inn with my family after a long circuitous route through California, Arizona, Southern Utah and Nevada last year. The night before we left LA for the UK we needed a relaxed and comfortable place to rest up. The Storybook Inn more than met our requirements. The host was both genial and accommodating and the inn, though not of the immaculate and pristine standard that one might find in some boutique style hotel in LA and Palm Springs, has bags of charm and much of interest to keep the kids amused. The view from the terrace is outstanding. This was our second time in the area and it has much to offer. For someone looking for a base to explore the Lake Arrowhead/Big Bear region this is an ideal spot.

The Storybook is the most inviting inn in the area. Other Hotels and B&Bs have strict rules or inflexible accomodations. The Storybook was able to accomodate our entire family for the weekend and it felt like the 10-bed room house was all ours. The hosts are friendly and professsional and take good service seriously. There is an on-site resteraunt that is open to both guests and the public; very small, and very quality! gorgeous views.

I couldn't have asked for a better B&B stay than the one I had at the Storybook Inn. It provided a very 'home away from home' feeling and the people there were the most amiable that I have encountered in this business for ages. My room had an amazing view, the food was great, and it was nice being able to bring my dog with me. The location with easy access to Snow Valley was ideal for outtings and I wouldn't hesitate recommending this inn to anyone.

I had to stay here only because a higher class B & B that we wanted was booked. The owner has the personality of an egg carton. He was lively with guests that he liked and apparently those that drop and additional $150 per night for average "fine" dining at the B & B. The morning breakfast was appaling! Powdered eggs that were tasteless at best and a weak fruit display.
Skip this B & B for kiddies and come back to luxury. This place is an insult to the seasoned traveler.

We try to please all our guests but unfortunately 1% are unhappy people. Never mentioned any problems with food, service or accommodations to my wife, myself or staff and we find it difficult to correct problems of which we are unaware. We have NEVER served powdered eggs in fact my wife makes fresh Quiches daily and our nice breakfast buffet (included in our most reasonable room rates) is the only one on the mountain. We love behaved children and pets unlike most ofour competitors adn offer Free archery, bocce ball and mountain bikes. Over 99% of our 16,000 guests in 6 years would disagree with this review. Just wish he had the courtesy to share his problems with us directly so we coiuld have adressed them.
