“Clean and simple--and try the nearby pool!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2006

My husband and I enjoyed our one-night stay at the Shoshone Inn. We had been told it was a dump and were therefore pleased to find it plain, clean, and simple--not at all a dump, but just very, very basic. We were warm and slept well.

A feature we very much enjoyed was the wonderful, large, warm-springs pool about 1/4 mile down a side road. A stay at the Shoshone Inn (or at the RV park across from the pool) gives you a key to this gated pool. The temperature is very pleasant--probably in the 80s F. We hated to leave it! There are no changing rooms or rest rooms at the pool.

If we hadn't bought a travel trailer, we'd return to the Shoshone Inn for the pool alone. With a trailer, we stayed in the RV park and splashed in the pool till we were "pruny."

We have also enjoyed our meals at the nearby cafe, the Crows Nest. Service is slow because the place is understaffed, but the food was good and the servers cheerful.

...very basic rooms but air and heat worked fine. The bathroom was clean enough, but the beds could have used a fitted sheet on the bottom. For the price and proximity to DV it was totally acceptable.

As another traveler mentioned, the people in this town possess a genuine warmth and made our stay very enjoyable. There's a warm spring just up the road which we took advantage of (great on a chilly desert night). The drive into the south end of DV is spectacular, and brings you right to Badwater (lowest point in Western Hemisphere at -282 ft). We found it a good place to stay for a night and begin our adventure. Definitely gas-up before you get close to the Valley-- gas is very expensive, and unfortunately much more so in this tiny town. we had a TERRIFIC breakfast at the Crowbar with great service and fantastic food. Check out the museum across the road. It's a great place to pick up a lot of travel info about DV and surrounding areas, and the proprietor was happy to give me advice and his opinions.

This is a strange review..
infact we didn’t sleep in the Shoshone Inn, even if we booked (and paid) a room through the Internet.
We had problems with a rented car, unfortunately, and we had to wait a car replacement for a long time. We weren’t so able to arrive and sleep in the hotel..
Since the cancellation is possible just 2 days before arrival, and the problem was the same day of arrival, I was sure the hotel wouldn’t have given me back the money.
I phone the hotel at 2.00 pm, explaining the situation, and telling them “I just want to let you know I’ll not be there tonight.. you can give my room to other customers”. I was very surprised, when I come back to Italy, to see they give me back the money..

This review is to tell them “Thank you” and to let everybody know how serious they are!

Blink on the highway and you might miss this "town"...We paid $63 for a room with a queen bed and shower stall (no bathtub) which somewhere else might ask $30 or $35...but it's the only place to stay for 40 or 50 miles (and Furnace Creek is booked up in advance) so there isn't much choice. We loved the stunning southern drive into Death Valley from Shoshone, so for that alone it was worth staying here.

We went to this motel because we wanted to enter Death Valley from that point. Do not, repeat , do not , choose to stay here unless you are really desperate. Grossly overpriced and very poorly run. The bathroom door had been recently painted and could not be closed!! Imagine that for comfort! We were hot and sticky after a long journey but were told that the "swamp coolers "were not ready for use! Cramped and not particularly clean. Nowhere to eat nearby. Stay in Pahrump. Sleep in Pahrump and also be sure to fill up your gas tank in Pahrump. As with all prices in Shoshone their gas prices were the highest we saw in California, Nevada or Arizona. Close to a dollar hiogher than in Parhrump.

this is truly a rough and ready little town in the middle of nowhere. This however is more than compensated for by the people who live and work in Shoshone. There was a genuine warmth from the locals who I expect find living and working there a lot harder than most people would ever realise. We stayed at the Motel and dined at the towns cafe and imbibed in the adjoining bar which sold an excellent beer called (I think) Brocks which is similar to Newcastle Brown Ale sold in the UK. If you are visiting Death Valley it is worth stopping off for a few nights or alternatively using it as your base and probably a bit cheaper than motels in Death Valley itself. It is about 50 miles from Badwater the lowest point in the Northern Hemisphere and has 2 routes into Death Valley itself so you are not travelling the same route if you stay a couple of days.At night it is eerily quiet with only the occassional car. Do not go or stay expecting 5 star luxury but do go if you like nature and natural people without any pretentions.

Not the greatest hotel, but the room was clean enough. The location is good for an early start to Death Valley. The main problem was that the walls were paper thin and it's pot luck who is in the next room. In our case a biggot from Las Vegas who was cursing at his wife for an hour.
Still, we got a good night's sleep and got off to Death Valley early.
Not much other accommodation to choose from in the area. Try asking for an end room with only one nieghbour.
