We spend the weekend in Seaside and spend one night at the Sand Castle Inn. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good (you can make your own fresh waffles). The interior is a little older, but that wasn't important for us. Paking was very convenient, right in front of the door. They have a good price-quality ratio.

We rented two rooms here, prices were comparable with other motels in the area, and this one was the only one that still had vacancies...

Front desk people were congenial and helpful, BUT the facilities are pretty run down:

Old plumbing and flushing problems - we also noticed plungers outside of some of the other rooms the next morning.

The non-smoking rooms smelled strongly of cigarette smoke; carpets were aged and stained, and the pillows were anemic.

Towels were thin and few; waxy cheap soap that would have been a better candle than cleaner; tear-open packs of medicinal-smelling shampoo, an air conditioner that worked only for tips, and one of the rooms had FLEAS.

BUT the weather and the beaches were beautiful, and our stay at this place was only for one night - next time we visit, we'll make certain we have reservations elsewhere in the Monterey/Carmel area before we arrive.
