We decided to try a "walk in" booking for our stop in Monterey.
We had a coupon book & after reading through them all, we decided on the Sandcastle Inn as it had "been renovated in 2007"
After checking in to the Sandcastle Inn, we regretted the decision.
The hotel is located in a seedy part of town.
The room was clean enough & we could tell the room had been painted recently.
However, after using the toilet the first time, it backed up & we had to turn off the water so it wouldn't flood the bathroom.
We went down to the front desk & they handed us a plunger to unblock it. As we walked back to the room to fix the plumbing, we noticed plungers outside every 2nd room.
We feel that a functioning toilet is a basic amenity.
Given the quantity of accomodation available in the Monterey area, we would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone.
