“Perfect Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

From the warm welcome and easy check in, to the lovely accommodations, to the comfortable bed and well appointed rooms, a stay at this Ayres Hotel is a perfect one. Is there anything more disappointing than a hotel shower whose flow is barely more than a sprinkle? Nothing like that here at the Ayres Seal Beach. The pillows and bedding are fresh, crisp, and fluffy clean. Even the smallest single room is spacious. The staff goes out of their way to maintain a culture of fine accommodation. And, for incredible dining and entertainment, Spaghettini Grill and Lounge, just across the street is a little bit of heaven. The groove of a New York music club/restaurant with the panache of Southern California.

Room Tip: There are lovely rooms with terraces, and a marvelous suite that feels like an apartment.

I stay at these hotels quite often. They are absolutely beautiful and I recommend them highly. I would give 5 stars, easily, if not for one thing: Fox News plays at every Ayre's during breakfast. If you need to have the TV on, and it needs to be on the news, it should be on a neutral channel so that everyone, no matter what political leanings they may have, feels equally welcome and comfortable. I have actually heard people talking about it while eating, and not in a positive way. Otherwise, a very, very classy hotel with wonderful employees.

Room Tip: At the Seal Beach location, top floor toward the back is extremely quiet if that's what you want...

The hotel room was clean and nicely furnished (I loved the 19th century pictures in the rooms and the hallways/lobby. Staff was friendly and efficient. Hotel was close to beach though traffic congestion and construction made it a 35 minute by car trip. Two quirky things: before you can turn on a light switch in the room you must insert key card (we fumbled around in the dark before we found it) where it remains as long as you want electricity. Second thing: the blackout curtains didn't overlap which left a bright slit of light in the room all night. I tried a few things to close it and finally gave up. The only real gripe: We arrived at breakfast room by 7:45 am and the fruit bowl was already empty and was not replenished. Next morning we got there even earlier in hopes of having some fruit (one of my kids is gluten intolerant and couldn't have much else -had to visit local grocery store instead). No fruit again-the bowl wasn't even out this time! I asked the chef who apologized but said there'd be no fruit. Plan to bring your own fruit if you can't have the usual: pancakes, french toast, sausage, dry cereal, oatmeal, juice). Bring your own drinking water too as the hotel room water smelled/tasted like strong chemicals.

Dear Karen -

Thank you for your candid review of our hotel and for choosing us for your stay. While I am pleased you enjoyed the decor and the hotel's cleanliness, I do apologize if our energy savers and breakfast offerings impeded your stay in any way. We try to do our part to be eco-friendly and in room energy savers are part of that effort. I do apologize if you were not informed of this feature by the Front Desk and had any difficulties at all. I have reviewed these comments with them to ensure they are letting all guests know of this. As to the breakfast, we try to provide a variety of healthy options to our guests, including fruit, and I am very sorry if this was not an option during your stay as we were out of this item. We will do our best to maintain our stock in the future. We appreciate your review and hope you will visit again soon.

Sincerely,

Bill Dolan

If you want a relaxing, beautiful hotel in Southern California, I highly recommend the Ayers Hotel in Seal Beach! The hotel has European charm without the European hotel sized rooms! There is a wonderful breakfast every morning that is included in your stay. During the week at 5:30 there is a happy hour with wine, beer, soft drinks and appetizers. The staff is fabulous and will do everything they can to make your stay the best it can be. The rooms are set up so that when you leave, you remove your room card from a slot on the wall in the room and the electricity goes off to save energy as is done in many European hotels. The hotel is conveniently located to a I 405 and 22 entrance and is convenient to many of the attractions in the area such as Disney, Angels Stadium and of course, beaches!! It is the place I always try to stay at when in the area.

Room Tip: I like to stay on the courtyard side so I don't see the street.

So far so good. We are here until Aug 10, 2013. Allyson (Front Desk) is great. We arrived late. When asked about the restaurants across the street, she volunteered to check the business hours and even offered to let the restaurant know we were on the way. Other staffs are friendly, too. Always greet with a smile when you walk in the lobby; a must for service industry. Access to hotel a little tricky due to highway construction. Clean & spacious guest room. Fitness room a little small, but no big deal. Complimentary breakfast is convenient. Plenty free parking. WiFi works great. Will definitely consider to come back.

Room Tip: Try to get a room near the elevators. We are way down the hallway. Ok for us; some may find it tirin...

We had a few nights here , and its really nice . . The staff are great and its clean. They have a nice pool and hot tub. . It's a real nice hotel and would definitely stay again.the beds are nice and comfortable . It's nicely located for several different places to go, we went to Latona beach and orange, both were about 25 min drive . We flew out of long beach and it was only 15 min to the airport,
