“Nice Hotel, but not in Santa Cruz”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

Very nice property. It's right next to the freeway, but it's not noisy as one would expect. Lots of trees. The hotel is about 15 minutes away from Santa Cruz, so the name is misleading. Beware of any rooms on the 5th and 6th floors. You have to go up one elevator, and then down a hall and then up another to get to those floors. Nice small pool and nice gym. And the restaurant is actually surprisingly good.

Room Tip: The 5th and 6th floor rooms are far away from lobby with a change of elevators.

Room and facilities were fine. I ordered room service and when the meal was delivered the check had a $3.00 delivery charge and a 20% gratuity already figured in. The check had a blank line for gratuity to which I added another tip. Not a word from the waiter. Should be obvious to the tired traveller.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

The weekend was scheduled as a respite from the world and this hotel, on paper, seemed to fit the bill. It appeared to be located in the mountains but close to the beach. In actuality, it is right off the highway-disappointment one.

The hotel is beautiful from the outside and the common areas are quite lovely, but the rooms are a bit dated and were a bit disappointing. The bed was soft--not the kind of soft that makes you want to crawl in and take cover for the entire weekend, but the kind of soft that makes your back ache in the a.m. Our room, designed to be accessible, was quite large but the handicap sign was offensive-their signs for access were outdated and need to be changed. The shower, hardly accessible, was a nightmare to figure out and reaching the switch to turn off the violent overhead nozzle, while using a wheelchair, would have been impossible.

On the first night two large tour buses, full of teenagers, arrived. Now-the reason we don't stay at the Hilton's little sister, the Hampton Inn, is because these types of groups tend to be loud, disrespectful to other guests, and staying at the Hampton Inn not the Hilton. Given the group size, and age range, you would think the the hotel would place this group in one section of the hotel--to keep the other guests from hearing any "group" noise. Not this Hilton; the group was scattered about and I was awoken not once, not twice, but three times at 11 p.m., 12 p.m. and 5 a.m. Girls were giggling and chatting outside my door at 5 AM! I called down twice, finally the third time I phoned they sent someone to "talk to the girls". On top of this-it sounded as if a herd of elephants had taken up residence above me. So much for the weekend respite.

Food service was another issue. The food was excellent-every time we ordered, but the service was scattered. Sometimes we got great customer service and other times it sounded like a teenager who didn't care on the other end. When one dish didn't arrive after 30 minutes (when they said it would be ten) a young man called to say-sorry we are out of that. Huh? it took 30 minutes to tell us that? He replied, yeah, I was busy. The food and beverage manager stepped in and was more helpful and polite and apologized and comped a meal but this, in conjunction with everything else, just left another ding in the weekend.

The final straw was the A/C. It must have kicked on after I fell asleep because I awoke to what sounded like a bad storm. I video tapped the noise-at 2 a.m.-from the bed. It made sleeping anything but restful but probably drown out some other noise.

So I leave this weekend, not rested as intended but with a sore back, NO sleep, and overall annoyance of money poorly invested in a lost weekend away.

Stayed here for a night during a work trip. The place is quiet, clean and has good internet service. The rooms are large, including the bathroom, and the beds are comfortable. There's a mini fridge and a microwave, if you need it. Staff was very nice and accommodating, and there was plenty of parking. Decent coffee shop across the street and the on-ramp to highway 17 is very close (but no freeway noise!).

I would have loved to have more outlets (or a power strip) near the bed, though, for a phone charger and computer. And the reception on the satellite TV was terrible, but I didn't watch much TV so it wasn't a huge issue for me.

Stayed one night. Great comfortable room. Nice hot tub and pool. Very clean and close to a coffee shop and pizza place. Great getaway outside of Santa Cruz in the mountains. Quick drive to hiking and beaches.

Wedding and reception @ the hotel. Must bring a back drop for outside wedding, cover up retaining wall. After reception have enough people for tear down. There is absolutly NO LATE CHECK OUT. The hotel is very accomodating The pet friendly atmosphere gave a very wonderful unique feeling of elegance to the hotel.

Is a beautiful, picturesque place to stay with great people, rooms and food. The rib eye steak in the restaurant is to die for. Absolutely the best steak I have ever eaten. The rooms very clean and the staff was very helpful and people friendly.
