“Really, just a nice place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Arrived on business for a 2 night stay at this hotel around midnight; tired and grumpy. Staff at reception was terrific - fast and professional but also warm, friendly and funny. Just the kind of personal touch to take the edge off a too-long day.

The building has a grand appearance from the exterior, but upon closer inspection the facility is actually starting to get just a bit long in the tooth.... but in a nice kind of way - like a favorite pair of comfy slippers. Room was large, comfortable, clean and quiet - furnishings were not spectacular but everything you wanted was there. Bed was extremely comfortable, linens were fresh and of good quality. Decent flat screen TV and channel selection, and FREE wifi (overpaying for wifi after paying good coin for a hotel is one of my biggest pet peeves when I travel on business - happens all too often). Large, clean bathroom, shower had good pressure, lots of flow and nice hot water. One little thing missing in my room was an available bedside outlet to charge my iphone while sleeping with the device still within reach.

Comfortable watering hole beside the lobby that sold a glass of decent California Merlot at a reasonable price. Unable to comment on the food because I didn't eat at the hotel. Overall, I'd recommend this hotel to any business traveller and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

My wife and I have stayed here three times in the last six months because it is such a nice hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and amenities very good. The beds are comfortable. I suggest paying a little more and get a room with a balcony to better let in the fresh air that has a hint of pine/redwood. The hotel is far enough from Highway 17 that you don't hear traffic...in fact, it's one of the quieter hotels. The exercise room is a B (cardio machines, dumb bells, and multi-function weight machine.) The pool and jacuzzi is particularly nice...great place to drink a glass of wine (use a plastic cup please). We haven't used the restaurant or bar yet, so on opinion yet. Parking is free.
The hotel is a five minute drive to Santa Cruz which is filled with many C- hotels and is typically "dog-patchy" like so many California beachside communities. This hotel escapes the dog patch look and is, for us, the best choice in this area.

This was a great hotel. The hotel is beautiful from the outside. When I arrived they upgraded me to a suite because I am a gold hhonors member. The suite was also extremely nice as you would expect. The front desk staff where very friendly and willing to help us with anything that we asked. We ate dinner at the hotel and had a great meal and service. This is by far the best hilton hotel that I have stayed in in a while.

If I had to find a fault, which is hard to do. I would say they could really use a couple more elevators as they were very busy and often full.

I don't give many 5 star reviews but the Hilton Santa Cruz is truely deserving of a top rating. We got a great rate here through the secret hotels section of lastminutetravel. Bedroom was large, well furnished, clean and equipped with multi channel Direct TV. All you can eat continental breakfast was a real snip at 7 bucks. Staff were friendly and helpful and the pool area, although small, was pleasant and relaxing.
This property enjoys a relaxed, guest friendly atmosphere and I would be happy to return and recommend it to others.

We got to stay here at a great price and it did not disappoint. Clean rooms and a great location just minutes away from from the beach. We would definitely stay here again when we visit the coast. Most of the hotels seem dated that are in the central part of Santa Cruz. We liked the short drive and staying in the nicer amenities.

On a recent trip to Scotts Valley we stayed at the Hilton Santa Cruz at Scotts Valley. We have stayed at this hotel many times over the past 7 years.
This time, however, the service at this property showed serious decline.
Housekeeping did not fully clean the room or remove used glassware from the dining service. On one occasion the water glass was not cleaned at all.
Requests for additional towels were ignored.
A request to change a blown light bulb took 2 days to complete.
In general, this is not the type of performance or service one would expect of a Hilton property.

We had an excellent experience with this hotel. We by chance got there quite early in the morning and was hoping for an early check in so we could get ready for an afternoon wedding. They were very accomodating and we were able to spend out extra time out by the pool (which was beautiful with their deluxe lounge furniture and cabanas). We then ordered room service for lunch and although a little pricey, was extremely impressive. The kids enjoyed their meals as well. Beds were very comfortable and the range of toiletires was more than any other hotel I have seen. The next morning the staff was very helpful with checkout and the ability to find parking in the parking lot without any additional fees was an added bonus. Would book this hotel again for our next stay.

Room Tip: Nice feature of having windows that opened for fresh air.
