Excellent view from the clean and quiet room.
Service was excellent and the perks of bottles of water and apples was an added touch to the Scottish service!
Great little cafe downstairs too.

If you want to stay in Sausalito and not pay a fortune this is a good place to stay. Driving in to San Francisco is not bad except for the $6.00 toll on the Golden Gate. However it is exciting crossing the bridge especially if you are a tourist like us. Basic rooms are a bit small but include all the basics and you get a voucher for coffee and pastries at the cafe right downtairs.
The Hotel Sausalito was a great location when we visited the San francisco area and the wine country. We stayed for 4 nights. It was just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco and located in a beautiful small town. The hotel was small and the so were the rooms, but were clean and quite adequate for my wife and I. There was a lot across the street where you could park for a nominal fee. The owner and his daughter who we saw every day were fantastic and very helpful. We would go back and stay there again.
We stayed at the Hotel Sausalito for 3 nights in mid November.
The location is undoubtedly the best thing about this hotel - Sausalito is a quiet, sleepy haven after the razzle-dazzle of San Francisco - but don't stay in Sausalito if you are after exciting night life - it is like a ghost town after dark!
The room was quite small - especially as we had a lot of luggage for our 2 week touring holiday - and felt smaller because it was somewhat over decorated. A bit chintzy for our taste! And the bed was smaller than we are used to (American Queen sized, which seems to correspond to a standard double in the UK?).
But there was a good view over the park, the shower worked well, and you couldn't get closer to the ferry to SF. The coffee downstairs in the cafe next door was great and there were plenty of pastries (but no healthy options). The free apples and water were a nice touch - though I would have preferred to have access to filtered water and save on all those plastic bottles - not very green!
The owner is not for the faint-hearted - think Billy Connolly, and you are on the right lines.
Generally a very good hotel.
Pretty hotel in a great location - we thought it might be noisy but not so. The cheaper rooms are on the small side (we used 213 & 4), with nowhere for big luggage in the rooms, but more than fine for a couple of nights. The parking permit system works well and the breakfast voucher for the cafe downstairs gave any tea or coffee and big pastry from the counter. The free apples were appreciated! Good value and recommended.
A bloody good job, that's what! From the moment he abused my English heritage and warned us to rattle the key in the room lock to scare the cockroaches out of the room, I knew we were on to a good thing! I will however be recommending this stay to anyone who comes to San Fran - and the rooms are great with excellent facilities! The location is right on the water and the November fog had me searching the Bay for a monster looking for a master -och aye the noo! (Who knows what that means, I don't but apparently it's a compliment for a Scot?). Alan Baldwin
