“Hidden Sausalito”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2012

Tucked away on Caledonia Street is the Plate Shop. Stopped by for late night dinner with friends on a whim. We will continue to come back to this great little bistro. The food and wine were high quality and well executed. The service was very good, as well.

“Fresh and delicious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2012

My husband had the trout which he raved about. I had the Moroccan chick pea soup which was spicy but delicious. The prices were reasonable for the quality of the food.

“Oh what a night!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2012

Kent greeted us at the door, presented the menu, and suggested that we use it as a reference only...how about we just let Pete (Exec Chef) prepare a tasting and Kent pour wine with each shared plate?
That was at 7 pm.
At 10:30 pm, we finally left.
It was easily, hands-down, one of the most memorable evenings I've had in a restaurant in years. And this was a business dinner!!!
The food was incredible (Pete - you are a real star!) and Kent and his staff in the front were equally stellar. Superb wine pairings and all the right touches, front to back, top to bottom. Great ambiance, too.
I will be back. So will my business clients and associates. Frequently!

“Run, Don't Walk for a great, rich seasonal menu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2011

One of the best dining experiences we've had in the Bay Area in quite a while.
The Plate Shop is near downtown Sausalito at the south end of Caledonia Street, just opened a few months ago.
Both the bar and the split-level dining areas have a very nice ambiance - nicely lit, not too bright. Separate areas including a quiet and more intimate raised mezzanine area in the back. Interesting and beautiful art. The menu was somewhat small but perfect, with entrees including one of each: pork, poultry, local fish, beef and game.

Highlights of this evening, with a letter grade for each item:
Cocktail: "Pacific Rim" - Gin, Ginger, Cilantro, Lime and Wasabi ( ! ) A
(the wasabi was in the form of tiny chips of wasabi horseradish and could hardly be tasted, the cilantro was more noticable, though only a few bits of the leaves were in the drink) The overall balance was amazingly smooth, though you'd have to be a fan of cilantro, which I am.

Salad: Star Route lettuces, beets, fennel, apples, almonds and chevre... A
The dressing was a mild viniagrette of olive oil. wine vinegar and orange zest.
Entree: Braised Rabbit in mustard sauce, with sauteed spatzle and brussel sprouts ... A+
The sauce was a rich and smooth (not overly sharp with the mustard) and the texture of the spatzl made it the best I've ever had - slightly crisp since it was sauteed after boiling
Entree: Braised Pork with whole wheat spaghetti, spinach, pecorino ... B+
Dessert: Butternut Squash-Farro Pudding with pomegranate seeds and whipped cream... A+
An inspired combination of tastes and textures, the pudding was only going to be on their seasonal menu for a week, but it's been so well-liked it's been a month now.
Nice touches: coffee came in a small French press, plenty of sparkling water refills
Really good service, after a somewhat slow start in the kitchen
Great music - jazz (not live but full-length albums)
I say "run don't walk" because this particular location has seen a LONG list of restaurants that have closed in less that 3-6 months. It was starting to look like the property was jinxed, so when we saw almost no one inside for dinner tonight (the bar scene was a bit more lively) we thought maybe this incarnation was also doomed. Granted, it was a Tuesday and only 7 p.m. Fortunately, the menu looked intriguing enough to get us in the door. It was a small but beautiful collection of starters, entrees and desserts - my husband and I had a hard time deciding because it all looked delicious. Everything we ordered was a perfect combination of fresh ingredients, subtle and interesting tastes, perfect temperatures, etc. By the time we were leaving the restaurant was getting busier and we trust word will get out how good Plate Shop is. We'll be back soon, with friends next time.
1 salad - large enough to split
2 entrees
1 dessert
2 coffees
came to just under $60
2 cocktails and one glass of wine ran about $30
