“Tops!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

Though this place is part of the Cavallo Point complex, it deserves a separate review because many of its patrons come just for the dining without staying overnight. It is superb! Service is welcoming, and very professional. Spent over two hours at dinner, and never once did we feel rushed or strained. Choices were varied, healthy, and very tasty. As others have commented, the drinks were a bit pricey, but good. Portions were such that we left feeling pleasantly satisfied but not stuffed. We intend to return!
PS: I walk with a cane, and sitting over two hours leaves me very stiff. The server sensed my discomfort, and quietly put her arm around my waist and walked me to the entrance! Lovely!

“Fabulous view but only so-so food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

You can't beat the view at this restaurant, especially if you sit outside on the porch, but the food was only average in my opinion, especially when it has to stack up against all the amazing selections in the Bay Area. We chose the 'sampler' plate which gave you a chance to try out 4 different dishes on the menu and none of them stood out as each was very bland. I do like my food filled with herbs and spices so it may be a prejudice of mine but I would not recommend it except for the view.

“Great food, magical location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

Cavallo Point has a lodge and restaurant in the restored military buildings of Fort Point, just north of the Golden Gate bridge. The location is magical, with the red-roofed white historic buildings facing the green expanse of the original Army "parade ground" with views to the bridge and San Francisco beyond, all set among enormous eucalyptus trees. On a clear day, the view is spectacular. I imagine it could get pretty chilly when the fog is in. But that could give the place an appealing coziness.
We haven't stayed in the lodge buildings, but would love to do that someday. It looks like the old chapel could be used for weddings, and I can imagine an entire family staying in the various accommodations for a very special celebration!
But this review is about lunch at the restaurant, Murray Circle. We ate there several years ago, and made a point to take family there when we visited this week. Last time we lucked out and were able to eat on the small terrace outside. This time, we ate in the dining room, which we feared might feel too formal. But while the surroundings are lovely - restored tin ceiling and other historic touches in the restored Army barracks - it is anything but stuffy!
The service is wonderful, and the food is amazing! My only complaint might be that the menu is a bit limited, and VERY expensive, with few items for any picky eaters. My daughter still remembers the kids' menu "mac and cheese" so was a bit disappointed not to find a grown-up version to enjoy this time. But everything we ordered was delicious. I notice the online menu today is different from what we had just a few days ago (although the amazing and very filling burger is the same) so I assume it shifts with whatever fresh and local ingredients might be available. There are some interesting and different items, such as a "lunch tasting" which for $23(!) gives you a taste of 4 different items, or a selection of "artisanal cheeses" on the dessert menu.
As I say, this place is expensive, but we enjoyed every bite, and left feeling rejuvenated.

“Cavalla Point- An Extraordinary Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

We made reservations for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. The receptionist, waiter and chef all acknowledged our anniversary and offered us their best wishes. We were greeted with a complimentary glass of nice champagne and an anniversary card. After our meal we were presented with a wonderful complimentary chocolate tray. The service was friendly and impeccable. The food was wonderful and beautifully presented. The Peach Tart was to die for. All of this is a beautiful restaurant that was quite enough for a romantic conversation. Located in a park like setting at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge. Truly a unique experience in an homogenized world.

“Perfect dinner ending a perfect stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

Enjoyed dinner here on last night of 2 day stay at Cavallo Point -- and end of a wonderful wedding stay in Marin. Guests enjoyed tender halibut, perfectly done steak, and tasty bouillabaisse. Drinks and wine good but pricey ($13/glass).
