“Good learning, nice to sea lions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We had no idea what this place was and had a nice short little stopover (<1 hr) to look at the sea lions and read all about them. It's a very nice set up, the price is right, and the sea lions are fun to watch.

“Worth the time to find it in the Marin Headlands”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

If you want to learn more about life along our shores, this is a great place to start: a beautiful even evocative location, very friendly mostly volunteer staff, very well curated exhibits for all ages...and often irresistibly cute patients.

“Marine center more of a hospital than tourist attraction”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

My family visited the marine center whilst my daughter volunteered there for the day. The location is amazing in a very historic area on the Golden Gate headlands. We learned a lot from the volunteers that were around to tell you about the current patients but as it a hospital you have a viewing area to observe and children need to be quiet. The gift shop was great and a worthy cause especially as they rely on visitor contributions.

“Breathtaking Marine Mammal Center”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

Incredible staff and docents, elevated platforms make it easy to see the cadre of volunteers hard at work. The volunteers are doing the work of angels. The exhibits are excellent. The gift shop a great stop for kids and grandchildren. Overall, a great place to visit as an adult and when the out-of-town grandchildren arrive, it will be a must see stop. There are many additional attractions in this national recreational area including a visit to and walk on the beach. All of it: great for a picnic.

“Time it to take a tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

Thank goodness for places like these. Our group felt it was well worth the visit just to support their efforts to rehab sick and injured marine mammals.
That said,we didn't spend very long there. Our agenda for the day was pretty packed and we were there in between tour times. You can self-guide, but this is really not a zoo/aquarium. The animals are unwell and too much noise and commotion is not good for them. They can be viewed from a distance, but without the narrative from the docent on success stories, it was really too sad to linger for long.
