“Anger Management!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

We had a reservation at the Hillside Inn for August 25th for one night, thank god! We entered the parking lot near the Lobby and heard what sounded like a business alarm going off. So we entered the Lobby and found no one at the front desk. All of a sudden the owner which I learned a bit later came flying into the lobby cussing and tossed his cell phone against the wall. We looked at each other in shear shock. He was a bit out of control. I asked are you the owner and his response was yes!He needs to take an Anger Management class NOW before he does something violent! WOW! We didn't know weather to stay or look for another place. Being there was a marathon going on in town we decided to stay. The property was well maintained but we entered the room it look like something from the 70's or 80's. Just a little updating could bring this guy a lot more business. Toss the tired bedspreads and use a duvet, Get those old dated pictures off the wall and spring for a wall mounted flat screen TV. It wouldn't cost much. I believe motel 6 or one of the lower end motels are a bit more modern. It's 2012 get with the program!

Room Tip: Our room was around $100, I think I'd look for another place!

We spent the night at Hillside Inn in Santa Rosa after attending a wedding. If you're looking for an economical, clean, and convenient place to stay, then this is it. No frills - no coffeemaker in the room but who cares - there are cafes and coffeeshops a minute away. This place is not super close to Hwy 101 but it only takes a few minutes to get there. Plenty of conviences, shopping, restaurants, and most importantly: wine country!

Room Tip: We stayed upstairs - I imagine it's quieter.

Rooms are nice, but a little bit old, but not that shabby kind of old, it's clean... Looks like my grandmas place. Pool area is nice but directly next to the highway...
Overall it is a very good budget stay for a night or even longer....

What we liked best about staying at the Hillside Inn was the comfort & lovely ambiance of the room - quiet location despite being near city center. Other things we liked: Nice foliage & residential feel of the site very helpful host WiFI hookup excellent TV (w/coverage of Olympics) handy kitchenette inviting pool & lounge/patio area walking distance to supermarket. When we return it will be a welcoming feeling like coming home.

Room Tip: Just a great place to stay

The television series "Bewitched" ran from 1964 to 1972. I tell you this because the Hillside Inn will make you think that you've time warped back to 1964. You'll be looking over your shoulder to see if Elizabeth Montgomery and the rest of the Bewitched cast have been resurrected and are living large at the Hillside Inn. This place is retro, groovy, and just the ticket for a pleasant inexpensive stay ($74 plus tax for a king room with 1960s original kitchenette) in Santa Rosa.

I stayed the evening of August 2, 2012 in room 207. Very clean, room 207 featured everything I needed, including original appliances from the 1960s. 25 inch tv, lots of dressers, king bed with firm (but comfy) mattress, and basic washroom (tub with shower). Outside, the pool area is very nice and well maintained, and there is plenty of parking. On site restaurant open 7 am to 2 pm daily, or cross the street and go to the IHOP. I have nothing bad to say about the Hillside Inn.

Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is terrible and 10 is excellent, I give the Hillside an 8. It is not the Waldorf, but for the price, you get excellent value and a neat motel experience.

This family owned property is a pleasant change from pricey chain hotels in the Santa Rosa area. It's a well-maintained older property with large, clean rooms, pretty landscaping and owners who work hard to provide guests with a good value and a comfortable stay. Many rooms have small kitchen areas; some are full suites with a 2nd bedroom and separate kitchen. Hillside has a great location by Montgomery Shopping Center. There is an excellent restaurant on the property and several other good places within reasonable walking distance. "Downtown" Santa Rosa is a short straight drive away. We rarely use the pool, but it makes a pretty place to visit or read on warm days. Hillside became our home away from home in Santa Rosa nearly a decade ago. Few places stand up to repeat visits the way this one has.

Room Tip: We've been comfortable in various rooms. Some rooms have separate kitchens for which there is a...
