“A 3.5 star experience... decent stay but nothing special”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

I rounded up to 4 stars because the hotel was okay... I did get a good night's sleep. Overall, I was pretty happy with my stay but I was here on cheap Hotwire rates, so how can you really complain? Well, I will... a little.
The walls are thin (the people next door kept banging their headboard all night), the hallway carpets are filthy (who would pick a yellow carpet for stairs???) and I got second hand ganja smoke from a neighboring room.
The room’s furnishings are dated looking (Americana stained maple) but in good shape. The room carpet was new. Beds are less than comfortable… a little springy but not hard. The bathroom has a nice granite countertop and a decent shower.
The (smallish) pool was empty in winter and the pool deck was a great place to soak up the sun we had during our stay. However, I’m sure it’s way too tiny to accommodate a full hotel of guests in summer. Parking is free, but free wifi is only available in the lobby… a bit old-fashioned and inconvenient.
The location is on top of hill with views of the 101 Freeway and a trailer park. I’d opt for a parking lot view from a higher floor… it should be considerably quieter.
The hotel consists of several buildings all named after a different kind of grape. A fun idea. When you arrive, there are signs everywhere asking you to leave your luggage in the car. That’s because you’ll be driving down to the parking lot closest to your varietal building.
I would definitely stay here again if I got a cheap price from a third party site… otherwise, there are better options in town.

Room Tip: Stay facing the parking lot not the freeway... it's quieter.

We are glad you enjoyed a restful night’s sleep and a good deal at our Sonoma Wine Country hotel. However, it is disappointing to hear when a guest's experience does not live up to their expectations in all ways and we truly regret if your accommodations were not exactly as you had hoped they would be. Please know that one of our associates is always available should any issue arise. As you mentioned, Internet access is complimentary in our public areas but we apologize if you found this inconvenient. Your comments will be shared with both our maintenance and housekeeping staff to ensure that everything is in its best condition for all guests. Thank you for your feedback.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

My wife and our two little ones just got back from a weekend stay at the Hilton Sonoma and absolutely LOVED it! The location is easily accessible and close to seemingly everything this area has to offer. Our trip was planned somewhat last minute (our original trip to the Hilton Los Cabos had to be cancelled because my daughter came down with an acute ear infection th day before we were supposed to fly out) dose I wasn't sure where we would end up and what we would pay. Turned out to a very good deal at a property with some really great feedback. We weren't disappointed.

We originally asked for a room by the pool with two beds but were told all of the 2 queen rooms were sold out because a junior Hockey tournament was in town. To my surprise, the young lady at the front desk offered us a "king" room and a rollaway bed with an adjoining "lanai" just off the pool. We took her up on the offer and were so glad we did! It was perfect for the kids and enjoying a couple of cocktails as the sun went down. Speaking of the pool.....it was absolutely amazing. Lots of chairs, lots of umbrellas, a huge hot tub, well equipped gym, and he BEST heated pool. We also took advantage of the buffet breakfast and thought it was great. The host and servers were always kind and attentive and the food was quite good and always well stocked.

So why not 5 stars? I'm not sure it is fair to hold the hilton responsible for either of these things.....but bothe put a serious damper on our little get away weekend. The first complaint centers around all of the junior hockey kids on site (I'm guessing 10-12 yrs old) and the total recklessness with which some of them ran around the facility. I had to be the "bad cop" on more than one occasion (racing luggage carts up and on the hall or wrestling on the slippery pool deck right next to my two year old) and called the front desk on a couple of others (loitering in the halls or wresting above us late into the night). I'm not sure who was chaperoning these kids....but they need to take a king hard look in the mirror. The second issue was the real "bummer". My kids absolutely LOVE to swim and were super excited about the hotel's pool. As soon as we got in on Friday night they had to run straight to the pool and try it out. So on day 2 all they could talk about was getting back to the hotel and going swimming. This was great.....for about ten minutes. That is when the maintenance people let us know that someone had "pooped" in the pool and that it would be closed indefinitely. Not easy no explain to a 2 yr old and 5 yr old who saw this as the hilight of their trip.

Again, not sure the Hilton could have done anything differently.....so I could have easily scored them a five!

Room Tip: The pool "deck" rooms are awesome!

Visiting Sonoma Wine Country can be such an amazing experience! Thank you for sharing comments regarding you and your family’s stay at the Hilton Sonoma Wine Country Hotel. Our Lanai guestrooms offer a lovely way to enjoy the beauty of the out of doors and our Junior Olympic sized pool is a favorite for many of our guests. We must sincerely apologize, however, if other guests were of any disruption during your stay. Please know that one of our associates is always available should any concerns arise and we would have been happy to help in anyway we can. Hilton Sonoma is a great Hilton property perfect for business or pleasure. Not the "fanciest" Hilton but definitely very cozy. The rooms are a bit spread out, so decide what your priorities are with regards to property location (pool vs restaurant)... Either way, its not a bad walk.

We stayed here one night on a long weekend drive through Napa and Sonoma. The property is large and divided into separate buildings, so it's good they tell you on a sign outside the lobby to not get out your luggage yet...you'll be doing that after you drive over to your building. The suite we were assigned (as Hilton Gold members) was nice, though it did have a problem with the heater/ac unit, requiring us to call maintenance who worked on fixing it for a good 45 minutes (outside of the room). It did get fixed. But then the tv was unplugged, and being in an armoire, we couldn't find where the cord would reach to so we had to call maintenance back. I think the suite hadn't been used in a while but they should double-check it if it is going to be assigned. Otherwise it was a nice room.

Breakfast was OK. The service was a bit slow and refilling the items at the buffet was also slow, but the food was good (typical hot stuff...eggs, potatoes, crepes, bacon/sausage). There is however a hot beverage station at the entrance of the restaurant if you like to go get a cup of tea or coffee (like I do) when I first wake up, before I go for breakfast.

We checked out the Charles M. Shulz Museum after we checked out, and it is not far from here or hard to find.

I would stay here again.

My husband and I stayed here two weekend nights (Fri-Sat) Feb 8-10, 2013. The bathrooms are tired, in fact, the whole complex is just a little bit tired. On the plus side, the bed was extremely comfortable along with the pillows. The Saturday brunch was superb, high quality food, excellent service, nice atmosphere (though a bit too dark for breakfast). We got a great deal ($90 per night).
On the downside - our room, which was in the 'Chablis' building, was on the bottom floor on the end. It was sooooo cold! We set the heat to 72 but it never got above 65 degrees F from 10PM until about 10AM (cold outside, so room couldn't maintain a comfortable temp). I would say, for the Hilton brand, this hotel is mediocre.

Room Tip: Dont' get a room on the end if it is the Winter. You will be cold and the room will never warm u...

I stayed here as a stopover and was very impressed as the hotel met and exceeded my expectations. Quiet room, very comfortable beds, and lovely grounds. I had a great burger at the restaurant and went back for breakfast the next morning. Our waitress, Julie, was really wonderful. The Hilton is a nice place to stay. The manager gave us breakfast free because the toilet stopped up.

We arrrived for a 3 night stay, on a Wednesday. We reserved 2 rooms...one for us and one for our son and his service dog. One room was ready and we were able to get settled before our son arrived. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. With the various buildings, all named for wine varieties, it was very nice to have good parking and ease of entry.
