Description: Gary Chu’s Chinese Seafood Restaurant is owned by award-winning chef Gary Chu. Chef Chu aims for gourmet quality while staying within the bounds of traditional cooking. The enticing menu, which boasts occasional seasonal additions like crab and corn soup, regularly features delicate steamed sea bass, lightly crisped lemon sauce chicken, tender and rich Szechuan lamb, an array of seafood (heavy on shrimp), and distinctively flavored vegetarian selections. Gary Chu’s family dinners make an economical option and enable sampling of a variety of tastes and textures. Nestled into the handsome and peaceful jade and black dining room and you’ll be taken care of by the efficient staff.

“Pretty good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2014

The restaurant is very dark. Some nice original dishes on the menu. First of all, order the crispy egg rolls. There is really no reason not to, they are delicious. Second, order one of the ice creams for dessert. Its a great way to end the meal. As far as the entree goes, I would share if possible. I was not terribly impressed by the mushroom bean curd, but it was not bad. They could have more vegetarian options, maybe some with some fresh vegetables. I might try it again. Reasonably priced.

“Very Nice Find Downtown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2014

Was just in town for one night and Chinese food sounded good. Found this place in the older downtown area and was pleased with my dinner. It has a pleasant atmosphere and the Mongolian beef was very good. The waiter was friendly and attentive. Good value for the price.

“A great Chinese restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2014

I know - you don't come to the wine country to have Chinese. But you need to try this place. I've been here at least two dozen times, and I'll keep coming back. It's a little pricey for Chinese, but worth every penny. Favorites include honey walnut shrimp, general Tso's, asparagus wrapped with rib-eye, and the sizzling rice soup with seafood (a unique treat). The decor is beautiful as well. Only downside is when it's very busy, the service, while always friendly, can be slow.

“Very good! ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2014

I have been to Gary Chu's multiple times and each time I go, the experience has been pleasant. The food is delicious and the prices reasonable. I do not understand the people here complaining about the price.... Since when is Chinese food supposed to be "cheap"? If you want cheap Chinese food, then go to Panda Express. Honestly, I never hear of people complaining about price and food quality at Italian, French, and even American restaurants where the portions are small and the prices are expensive. At Gary Chu's, I feel the prices reflect the food quality/portion very accurately.

Anyway, I would definitely recommend this place for anyone craving good, authentic Chinese food!

“Only Partial Order:(”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014

By the time we had gotten the attention of someone to mention we hadn't received our entire order we were just about done with dinner. There were 9 of us at one of the large tables. Our order wasn't complicated. The portions are on the small size compared to many Chinese restaurants. Food is really good and fresh. Go back again. Most likely not. Or at least not for a long time.
