“Not bad but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2007

This place is just OK, we stayed for 4 nights in July. Property is very nice but close to the highway (you will hear the traffic) Many fountains on the property try and cover the street noise but do not succeed. Free breakfast is poor, fruit and muffins. The $8.00 breakfast is much better. Also the breakfast waiters are lots of fun and provide great service. I will the same could be said for the front desk. Young women and desk couldn't answer any questions about wineries, they do not make reservations, there is a computer available so it is a do-it-yourself place. Do your home work b/c you'll not get any assistance here. We paid $200 a night to stay here which isn't bad but you don't get much for your money. No a very special location. Stay at La Residence in Napa or the Meritage. Both are superior.

We stayed at Vintners Inn for a couple of nights in June and had a great time. We could not believe how easy it was to get there and to go to so many Sonoma areas from this location. Traffic on 101 was so bad and when we checked into our room all the stress went away. The complimentary bottle of white wine really helped us relax. The room was spacious and very confortable. The grounds are beatiful, and the vineyards are so close.
We like to keep in shape and go for jogs. This place has a two mile jogging path that meanders through their vineyards. What a wonderful suprise - best amenity for us.
The food at the restaurant next door was so good. Their bar is so beautiful. We took adavantage of the free appetizers on Wednesday. We really got the best deal by travelling mid week. We noticed that the rates go up by $80 on Fridays and Saturdays.
We'll be back soon. The staff was so friendly...

Beautiful, french designed architecture and gorgeous gardens all around, and flanked on two sides by vineyards. The room was huge, with a balcony and a lovely view (we walked around, and I can't imagine any room there having a bad view). John Ash restaurant is attached to the hotel, and the food is gourmet (we ate dinner there - fantastic). It is just so peaceful there. The service was some of the best I've seen -- we needed help with our luggage, and the bellman grabbed all of the luggage out of the car and took it to the room (he had to carry it up the stairs to the second floor, too), and he placed it in the room appropriately, instead of just dumping it inside the door. When we were leaving, we called for a bellman, and someone appeared a moment later and repeated the process, loading up the car. The front desk people were very pleasant and helpful, too. The room was really big and nice, very clean, and comfortable bed and pillows. My girlfriend LOVED the place! We stayed at three different places during our visit to Napa and San Francisco, and she like this place the best. Yet it was the least expensive of all the three places.

We thought this hotel was fantastic...beautiful grounds, well kept, renovated rooms and a great location. We had no contact with the front desk, but frankly didn't have a reason to - we made one request for something and it was at our room in 5 minutes. I thought this was comprable to the hotels that charge $400+/night in Sonoma, and was thrilled to pay 1/2 for the experience.

This is an excellent location for wine tasting and sight seeing. Travel to Santa Rosa can be a problem so don't go at the end of the day especially on weekends.

Our room was nice, but not extraordinary, but the grounds a great with walks (or runs) through vineyards and great flowers. Having John Ash and company on the grounds is the greatest part, as it is exceptional.

  • Disliked — No complaints at all

We've stayed at the Vintner's Inn before, and while the grounds are as lovely as ever and the room is comfy, the service and amenitites are going downhill. In previous visits there was a complimentary bottle of wine waiting for us, but that's now down to a half-bottle; the wireless connection is weak, and the constant noise of workers outside is a bit distracting. The continental breakfast is now juice, pastries, cold cereal, yoghurt, and coffee. Toast is extra, as is hot cereal, and the servers have to be hunted down when you want coffee.

A lovely place, apparently cutting back in amenities, and the front desk people are no longer the knowledgeable helpers they used to be when you want suggestions for restaurants and wineries. There's a book of some menus, and other than that, we were left to our own devices and the help of TripAdvisor....which led us the first night to The Farmhouse Inn's restaurant down the road. Superb meal, but limited menu (five or six entrees).

  • Liked — lovely grounds, access to Sonoma wine country
  • Disliked — sense of cutting back on service and amentiies (as compared to previous stays)

We stayed three nights at the Vintner's Inn and were very impressed with the grounds, room and staff. It seems like I was in the lobby asking questions constantly and they were very accomadating and pleasant. We ate at John Ash & Co. twice and enjoyed our meals tremendously. We will definitely come back to stay at the Vintner's Inn during our next visit to the wine country! Lisa & Bart
